How did you do on the test day?

I think it was 280k because I tested some examples. You would do 2x14,000 and then take away two 0 places because k was a number representing a percent not a percent where it would be like .3.

Also, what was that one question in math. Adding .3 to the width and subtracting .3 from the length..something like that. What does it do to the area?

Ok, the answer to the commissions question was 280k. When finding a percent, you multiply by the value of the percent over 100. So, the two cars totalled 28,000, and that number must be multiplied by k/100. So you get 28000k/100, cancel the 0's and you get 280k.

Also the rectangle area question (decrease width by 30% and increase length by 30%- although it doesn't matter which one you increase or decrease, the answer will still be the same) results in a decrease in the area by 9%. The simplest way to do this is to just pick values for the length and width of a rectangle- 20 and 10 work nicely, but you can use anything. So the area of the starting 20x10 rectangle would be 200. Increasing the length by 30% gives a new length of 26, and decreasing the width by 30% gives a new width of 7. So this new 26x7 rectangle has an area of 182. 182/200 = 0.91. So the new rectangle is 91% of the area of the starting rectangle, so it decreased by 9%.

I was really lucky on the math part this time. I was agonizing over the commission question for quite a while (good thing it was the only one I was missing still in that section). But I put 280k because I considered k as a whole number rather than as a decimal.

Does anyone know what the answer was for the question that said something like: "If A, B, C, D, and E are on a number line and AC is 4.5, CD is 1 and BE is 3.5, what is the length of AB?" I don't really remember the values they had and for which segments but I ended up guessing and just putting 1.5. I figured it was a grid-in anyway and it didn't matter much.

Ouch, you're gonna kick yourself for this one. The answer x could be 0<x<1.5, but not including 0 or 1.5. So in other words, if you went one hundredth lower in your answer, you would have been correct.

YES! I totally guessed on the ABCDE question with .5. Go me!

Does anybody want to talk about the essay? I thought it was an easy topic (questioning authority). Any other questions about the sections we can bring up?

ME TOO! I tried to use the 306090 rule twice to get h, but then I just realized an hour ago that the second triangle you can create to get h is not actually a 30-60-90, more like 35-65-90. I can't believe I got to the point of having two sides of a right triangle and the missing side being the value of h, but not putting two and two together and using the pythagorean theorem. Goddammit, good bye 800, hello 780.

1.3*.7=.91 => a 9% reduction in area.

Lets talk about the critical reading.. Was the passages harder than usual??

Did anyone get two writing sections?
I did and i am trying to figure out which one was experimental....On the second writing section i had a ton of "no errors" and so I am hoping it was that one....The second one had a question with like "surprisingly badly" in one of the find the error questions.....Do you think it was this section that was experimental or did everyone have this question?

i only had the surprising badly section...
I have three math related questions
1. what was the answer to the one with (-p,0) (r,0) (-t,0) (s,0)
2. the answer to the one with f(x+y)=f(x)f(y)
3. was the car saleman question in the same section as the pyramid section

math is often easier than english
what can i say about CR? It started ok, but about half of the test, I messed up with all the timing and couldn't answer a whole bunch of them.
well.... SATs are all equal in difficulty, it depends on the luck of the person, if u r good at certain problems and if those problems show up a lot or not at all.... the key to suceed in this test is to read alot and take as much practice tests as possibble..... of course not the night before the test, but in general.
Essay was easy, since i got tons of practice...DONT STICK TO THE 5 PARAGRAPH OUTLINE, THAT SIMPLY KILLS U. the five paragrph system is just a system for the middle schoolers, so they know the basic stucture of the essay. Whatever, you can write 4 paragrphs with a good flow and solid examples, this is for people who take a little more time to write. But if you r a writing pro, just write 5 or even 6 paragraphs, BUT REMEMBER THAT WHAT COUNTS IS THE QUALITY, NOT QUANTITY.
People correcting these essays have a whole pile of 1000 essays to grade, would they want a short, precise and nice essay or a long, bulky but good essay? i'll go for the short one. ......
Another thing, if u have trouble with the timing, just conclude the essay before it is too late, dont try to write another whole paragraph, that doesn't work...... IT IS BETTER TO LEAD THE ESSAY TO A NICE CONCLUSION THAN CUTTING IT IN THE MIDDLE BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH TIME......

hope this tips work for you

bye

I dont know if anyone still remembers this, but for improving paragraphs of the second section of writing, there was a question that asked for something like "which of the following changes can most improve the sentense."

Was the right answer where you have to change "it has been" to "it would have been" or something like that?

I did the SAT with a writing experimental

I really hope the first math section I took was experimental. I think i left 4 blank in that section only Yeah, math was harder for me this time than it was in April.

asfhoop - I had that question and I only had one writing section.

Phyllo - Car salesman/commission was same section as pyramid. I don't remember the first two questions... were those part of an experimental? Or of course, I could just be forgetting them.

I had an experimental reading section with one big passage about fiction v nonfiction writings. My little paragraph passages were about different views of snakes or something.

Ok. thanks guys.
Did everyone say that "surprisingly badly" was the error? I put "no error" but I think I messed it up now. But did you guys get a lot of No Errors in that section?

I put surprisingly badly as the error. I do remember glancing at my sheet and seeing more Es than usual, but I don't remember the exact number.

i think it was an error...i mean surprisingly bad? doesnt make sense to me...thank god i had experimental math section...i woulda died if i had to deal with a frikkin passage...ugh....

What did you get for the question involving 24 teachers reading the National Enquirer and 21 reading something else? It had to do with a Venn diagram.

That was part of the experimental section.

OK. Then what about the question with painting a 2-colored ball with 5 different colors?
