FYI the reason Brown is mentioned on both the OC and Gossip Girls is because the man behind those shows (Josh Schwartz) is from Providence and went to school at Wheeler (the private N-12 school right next to Brown).

Actually, I heard about it from my former high school principal (I graduated already, so that’s why I say former). She went to a conference at Brown.

It’s funny how many pop culture references Brown has gotten lately. I feel as though they seriously ramped up in the last few years for some reason. I personally had always known about Brown, but really started thinking about it when two of my friends who were a year older started their search and both, independently, while living a thousand miles a part, told me that I should really look at Brown that it would be ideal for me.

That was, oh, 6 or 7 years ago, and here I am now, a few months from my Sc.B. and a little over a year until an A.M. and I couldn’t agree more.

I think the pop culture references when I was applying in the late 90’s were even stronger.

People like Lisa Loeb and Duncan Sheik were recent alums. JFK Jr. was the editor of George Magazine and promoted Brown at high profile events all the time.

Brown popped up constantly in movies like “Varsity Blues” and “As Good as It Gets” – there was even an entire scene that took place at Brown in “Outside Providence”

Good times Everybody wanted to go to Brown…

lol, this seems really funny now after all this, but my daughter actually heard about it from the admissions officer info session at her school. I had heard of it vaguely before, but I was the one who watched the O.C., not her, and I heard about it in the non-fiction book “The Gatekeepers”, about a year in the college admissions process at elite colleges.

funny thing is I don’t like any of the ivy leagues…when I heard Brown was one, I was pretty disappointed. Until I went to their college fair last summer (I wrote about that) Although how I ended up there was pretty dramatic because I have really bad car sickness to the point that I go unconscious after more then one hour in the car so basically it took us two hours and my dad had to carry me into the gym…pretty sad but true lol. It was soo beautiful, instead of going around to other tables I spent almost 3 hours on the Brown University table hearing the students talk about their school. They definetly inspired me to apply. Although I know I stand no chance against the most competitive applicants on CC I have hope :)

I heard about Brown for the first time when i watched ‘‘the perfect score’’ .Ironically, this is a movie about kids who try to stole the SAT answers
After that i realized how prestigious this school is when i was watching the TV SERIES Gossip girl

this is such an old thread, but i also wrote about the oc! (i also have a huge obsession with the oc and it is my favorite show of all time, but i didnt discuss that). my friends told me not to write about the oc, but i think brown will appreciate our honesty.

If you ever consider not “actually” telling the truth, maybe you should grow up

Besides, it’s not like you can control how you first hear about something. You kind of have a twisted idea of an admissions committee if you think they’re going to do anything bad to you based on how you found out about the school.

Im anxious! Im dying to KNOW! Any news would be nice…i think i would be crying with koy if i was waitlisted seriously! i dont expect to get in whatsoever…i already know my fate with Brown, i can feel it…:(

I was talking to a friend freshman year, he said Brown was looking like a good fit for him. I said, “What’s Brown?” Then he said, “It’s a really good school in Providence, you would probably like it.” Fast forward to senior year, it is one of my top choices and my friend does not even apply. Go figure.

well, i live like 5 minutes from downtown Providence, so it was kind of difficult NOT to hear about Brown. in fact, I heard about it so much that I had completely written it off as a potential college option until the tail end of my college app cycle. and here i am a few months later, and it’s jumped up to being my 2nd choice school when shortly before, it wasn’t even on my list at all.

I heard about if from my gc, I really wasn’t even looking at any ivy league schools, but after doing my own research on them and going to information sessions, I applied to four!
