Now that it's March 2012

How are you all feeling about your chances at Brown? Here’s a little survey to keep us occupied while we wait until Ivy Day late this month.

Why WILL you get into Brown?

Why WON’T you get into Brown?

Did you apply to any other Ivies, or is Brown your only one?

How many kids do you personally know who applied to Brown too?

Is Brown your first choice? If not, what school is?

How many kids typically get accepted from your school to Brown?

I’ll go first:

Unique major, good essays, great grades, hopefully at least one kickass recc.

test scores. Meh.

Only Brown, but Stanford is Brown-esque (deferred EA, but always intended to apply to Brown regardless).

One other kid, a girl… Also daughter of my mom’s colleague.

Would be a toss-up with Stanford

None ever. Cool right?

Real passion for the school and a lot of research in high school

Scores are a little low for Brown

I applied to Princeton, UPenn, and Cornell, but Brown is my top!

I have 2 people at my school and 4 friends who also applied ED (3 deferred and 1 rejected)

Brown is absolutely my top, but I also love a lot of the schools I applied to (especially UPenn, Duke, Vandy, and Hopkins)

So few kids apply that it’s hard to say … This is the first year it’s more than one :)

Question 7: Who here got the mysterious e-mail everyone is freaking out about?

Good essays, awesome grades/class rank/GPA, good recs (and possibly my interview)

Definitely test scores

Brown was the only one.

Personally, I know two kids who applied to Brown. One from my current school and the other from my previous high school.

I really don’t know. For me, it’s all about money. I’ve gotten “likelys” from Notre Dame and Duke, both of which were definitely in my top five. Still waiting on Brown, Northwestern, and Williams.

I’m not sure. Probably. Last year, one girl got into Duke, Yale, Princeton, Dartmouth, along a few other top-tier/Ivys. I wouldn’t be surprised if Brown was in there somewhere.

Course rigor, test scores, good common app essay

Not as much really meaningful ECs as I would have liked (although I do play a sport)

Brown, Cornell, Dartmouth

Nobody. :(

Shares the lead with Dartmouth and Duke

It’s been several years since someone from my school went to Brown.

I have no idea why people are freaking out about that dumb email. I got it, and it’s definitely just another application-pool newsletter.

Essays, Recs, ECs, course rigor, gpa

damn sat score, sat ii scores

I applied to harvard just because

2-3 I believe…

It would be a huge battle between brown and harvard… just thinking about having that debate is getting me too excited :frowning:

Nobody ever applies to Brown, nobody has gotten in.

I fell for this email bs and then realized I just wanted a reason to expect an acceptance :(

Test scores, essays, awards, great interview (and LOVE FOR PLME!)

I could have taken additional challenging physics/math courses but didn’t. GPA is high but slightly lower than peers’.

Yes, a few others.

Only 2 out of my friends (that I know of), but I’m sure there are at least 40 from my school (since that’s what it’s been historically).

I don’t have a single top choice, but Brown is at the top of my list!

2-4 based on the year, according to Naviance.

I love Brown a lot, i think that showed in my application. I also had pretty good essays and solid grades.

My test scores are not my strongest…and i had a B in one class last semester

Penn, Princeton, Yale, Dartmouth, and Brown

7 applied early from my school (2 accepted the rest deferred) and i think like 5 more applied regular :frowning: + there are 2 other girls from another school i know who applied

Brown was my top choice back when i applied ED…now i try to stay positive because i pretty much love all the schools i applied too. But yea…i would say Brown is my top choice

Every year since like forever 2 kids get accepted from Brown from my school. Those 2 kids are always ED applicants. 2 kids have already gotten accepted. Hopefully Brown wants to change it up this year!!

I had no idea people were reading into those emails till i opened up cc this past weekend for the first time in months. I got both emails. i secretly dream it has a hidden meaning, but honestly its probably just PR like everyone logically believes but doesn’t want to admit.

QUESTION 8:
If you get accepted (to Brown or any college) what song will you play to celebrate??
I would play 40 Day Dream by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros :D

How are you all feeling about your chances at Brown? Here’s a little survey to keep us occupied while we wait until Ivy Day late this month.

Why WILL you get into Brown? I am unique, with strong numbers

Why WON’T you get into Brown? I am unique. Weak grades sophomore year for a very rational reason

Did you apply to any other Ivies, or is Brown your only one? Dart + Harvard

How many kids do you personally know who applied to Brown too? I don’t know for sure, but I’m sure dozens of kids I know have, but I don’t ask.

Is Brown your first choice? If not, what school is? The Brown/RISD combo probably is, but tied with Tufts and U Chicago

How many kids typically get accepted from your school to Brown? 4-8, except I’m on a gap year

I think it means they’ve read your application… Nothing more, nothing less.

Celebration Time C’Mon!

Unique extracurriculars with lots of leadership

Kind of low numbers, and I come from a very, very competitive community

Applied to all of them except Cornell

I know a guy who toured the school during the summer, but I don’t know if anybody applied…

I would be happy going to any of the schools I applied to. Brown is amazing and has a very unique and enticingly unstructured curriculum, which I love.

A couple, but very few go. I think only one or so in the last few years actually matriculated.

I guess I’m too cynical, because I didn’t think anything of the e-mail at all. However, it was very nicely worded, which I appreciate.

Eye of the Tiger

Major awards, 2400 SAT, 3/4 “genius” recs.

top 2% of class.

5 total.

From my school? three.

I don’t have one.

28 years, 120 applications → 120 rejections.

It’s just marketing (and yes, I got it).

I have a playlist of 30-odd songs.

Essays, recs, interview (if that’s a factor)

Test scores, the fact that I only had the short answers and the common app essay to show my writing

Yeah because although it was a huge risk, I wanted to aim high and not regret this process. I also applied to penn and Harvard.

None actually, and I’m really surprised because people from my high school have in the past.

Absolutely. I cannot express how much I want to go to Brown in words hahaha

Err, not a lot. In past years I only know of several from my HS that have been accepted.

Thanks for this survey, I need to channel my nervous energy somewhere!

Oh and I forgot the other ones!

Yeah I got them and as much as I want to read into them one just can’t or they’ll regret it. As much as I wanted to receive a likely letter it just didn’t happen :(

Definitely electric feel hahahah

I am…unique? lol. Not really sure why, I just want to so bad!!

GPA/ACT’s I was and ED deferral applicant and now competing more student who are better than me :(

ONLY ONE FOR ME :)

5-10 ish (2 other ED deferred applicants)

Brown is my #1

Not many

I fell of the Like Letter email :/

We are the Champions - Queen

Essays, Recs, Interview, and liberal nature of my resume along with strong passions in the sciences.

Some test scores are not up to par. ACT is very good, SAT 2 Chem is very good, SAT 2 Math is lacking…

Yale and Columbia

10+

No, MIT. PLME would probably put Brown much higher on the list.

Not many, probably because of the lack of independence in picking course loads, which is kind of the antithesis of Brown’s own curriculum.

I did get the email.

I’ll be making my OWN music!

Good essays and grades

Test scores

Only one

Four

First choice

None

Got the email

Probably won’t play any song but instead do a victory lap around my house. I really don’t have to worry about it too much since I’m probably going to get rejected

Grades, I know at least one of my recs was amazing but I didn’t see the others, I made the most of my small town and school, and I have a clear passion…it’s for dance but at least they know I’m passionate about something.

My test scores are average for a Brown student, like right in the middle so those could go either way. Mostly I’m scared I just don’t have that x factor thing they’re looking for.
3.I also applied to Yale (deferred SCEA), Harvard, and Columbia.

None.

It’s a very very close second to Yale
6.I’m almost sure I’m the first one to apply to Brown in a long time. So none.

I got the email. And sadly, apparently everyone else did too.

Probably One Direction. I’m obsessed with One Direcition.

I did not get the email… Really freaking out now because everyone seems to have gotten it!

@despicableme01, I didn’t get it either. I wouldn’t worry; CC veterans seem to think it’s just a PR move. (I hope so at least!)

I have a LOT of interest in the school and I think that showed through in my essays, my recommendations were pretty awesome, and I’m pretty unique I think (I play accordion and I’m obsessed with klezmer music and amusement park history, maybe they’ll just think I’m weird haha)

My SAT score (because of the darn math section!), my SAT II scores and I don’t have any hooks or anything

I applied to Cornell too

None

YES, absolutely yes!

No one applies to Ivies from my school for the most part. The last time someone applied to Brown was 5 years ago, and he got rejected (went to Dartmouth instead). The last time someone from my school went to an Ivy was 4 years ago when my sister got into Penn, although someone from my class applied ED to Penn this year and was rejected

I got both of the e-mails but I don’t think they mean anything, better to not get your hopes up hahaha

Elephant Gun by Beirut, definitely! :)
