Google, ftw!
I was looking up stuff about MIT way back during the summer between 8th and 9th grade and I found this. I was a lurker for quite a while and then I joined and started participating in the discussion…what did I get myself into!?

I was told about College Confidential by a friend on an online forum for students who like math competitions.
Multiple google searches. Every time I was researching something, I’d end up here. So I was just like, “hey, why not get an account?”
I’ve since found out that one of my friends from school frequents it, too. And she told a mutual friend about it – he promptly found my chances thread. Awkward.
I put “how does the admissions process really work?” @ Google
I just realized that I have no clue how I found this website. I probably did a search on college rankings and this came up. Whatever.
I was just curious about how other people stumbled upon this site…
I received mail from scams such as the National Society of High School Scholars, Who’s Who, and National Honor Roll and googled those terms to find discussions about them here.
I was told about College Confidential by a friend on the Art of Problem Solving Forum, the parent Texas137.
Well i went to yahoo and typed in google and searched up college
I was an ED applicant obsessing over my ED school and Google spit this out at me. I still love it- the college admissions process is so weird and fasinating.
A friend told me about it.
googled something about college and followed a link here and i have been on the forum ever since.
The thread on clever screen names mentioned how someone found this forum. I’ll admit that even the most “push your kid and his counselor to the max” parents that I’ve known haven’t heard of this board. I am interested. How did you find this board?
My story - ran a Google search for PSAT/NM scholarships. It turned up somewhere about the 8th page. I read a few pages and found that the parents who really knew something were willing to share.
Plus, we get to talk about granite countertops and Roombas…
No memory of it at all. Probably googling of some sort.
I Googled “what to wear for college audition”. That was almost exactly four years ago, and kid in question is still auditioning… (or auditioning again is probably more accurate.) How the time has flown. I had a college junior, a HS senior, and a HS freshman then. And I lived on a different continent.

An article on the Wall Street Journal mentioned CC, and I was initially overwhelmed with the information. Now, I wish I found CC years before I actually did!
Googled something regarding my own college and got caught up reading related posts. I was bothered by some misinformation, so I signed up to offer a firsthand perspective.
In some ways, I really do wish I’d found CC in time for my own college app process. In other ways, though, I know that my search turned out for the best, and I’m glad I spared myself the stress of really knowing what I was ‘up against’ and what all of them were doing about it
Looking for FA. Found CC after 1 night of frantically coming up with college list for junior son, who decided to apply day before winter break. Had I read CC that day, and asked for advice for colleges with good math/CS programs (other than the major tech schools), his path could have been different. He got lucky, but outcome could have been different.
I found CC, about 15 months ago, during my daughter’s senior HS year and college search, through a link on one of the message boards on the Princeton Review website.
