I have been going to my local community college trying to figure out what I want to do with the rest of my life. Math has become my favorite subject and now I am interested in accounting. I have completed 75 credits and have a 3.6 GPA. 30 of my credits will apply to the Business Admin-Accounting program at my school.

Im not 100% sure accounting is for me I really dont know much about accounting in general. There is an intro to accounting course that wont apply to the program, but it seems simple. Im thinking of taking it to test my interests.

How did you know accounting was right for you?
Im open to any sort of advice or tips.

i’m in the same position as you, just starting accounting at the local community college. i’ve taken a semesters worth of accounting and i enjoyed it. accounting doesn’t involve a lot of complicated math from what i’ve seen. although most business schools make you take up to calc 1.

i’m good at straightforward math and i don’t mind number crunching. that’s why i think accounting will be a good path for me. there are a lot of opportunities in the field if you keep your grades high, and room for advancement. remember to study hard and try to do extra curricular stuff so you can land that job or internship when it comes time for graduation.

There are a lot of different kinds of accounting and they require very different types of personalities. You need to consider whether you want to do bookkeeping, auditing, or tax.

This might not help, but I just want to let it out.

I’ll tell you how I knew accounting was NOT for me: the fact that I enjoy AND understand calculus to a much greater degree than accounting.

Although not an A, I received a B+ in multivariable calculus, yet received C and D grades in introductory as well as financial accounting. Pathetic, isn’t it?

I took a class in accounting, studied econ, I got a ton of accountants in my family, a ton of my friends are accountant, hell even my neighbor is an accountant so I’ve pretty much been exposed to it my whole life and call it conformist but I wanna be like everyone I know and yeah ACCOUNTING IS FUN.
