Rice is one of the universities that considers applicant interest in their decisions. For future applicants, could you let us know how you showed interest in Rice and whether or not you were accepted? Possible ways you may have showed interest (beyond sending in your $$ and application) is to have gone on a campus tour & information session, written to specific professors, visited labs, written to your admissions rep, sent flowers (lol), called admissions to discuss various issues, etc.

So, how did you show interest? Were you accepted?

I demonstrated interest in a pretty standard way. I did a campus tour/info session and also did an on campus interview while there (a really informal, short sit-down interview with a current student working for the admissions office). I also attended the engineering info session. I think I later emailed the student who conducted my interview, thanking her for her time and for answering my questions during the interview.

However, I wouldn’t recommend students go out of their way for school visit if it’s inconvenient; I only did this because I wanted to see the school anyway and I was visiting family in Houston.

And yes, I was accepted.

Campus tour. D was accepted without demonstrating any excessive interest. I think the “why Rice” essay should be pretty specific - at least that is what the person leading the info session repeated several times. :-)

i forgot to ask for interview and did not show any interest besides applying

still accepted tho
