I'd like to know if anyone can speak to how difficult it is to get into Yale's Master's Degree program -- specifically, to earn a Master's in Art History at the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences. It'll be a few years before I'm in a position to potentially apply, but I'd like to learn all I can before then, to prepare. FWIW, I'm 50 years old and just now working towards my BA after spending 30 years in the professional world.

According to the YGSAS' website, they take about 500 students into their Master's program each year, about a third of whom are from outside of the US. I presume that means that I would be competing for one of about 360 slots. However, I have no sense of how much competition there is between Bachelor's holders from other universities, transferring to the YGSAS (I know that their MFA program is fiercely competitive). I'd particularly value any thoughts about what qualities or accomplishments the admission folks might look for from later-in-life students.

I'm also curious about their "special student" program ( Welcome to Yale University Graduate School of Arts & Sciences ), which is a 1-term, non-degree program. The website doesn't go into much detail (such as how many they accept, what the program costs, etc.) Anyone know?

Thanks in advance for any feedback!
