I was just curious as to how poor a 4.21 uc gpa and 2220 sat would be for berkeley considering im OOS. I am also Asian/Hispanic/Caucasian with 180K income bracket from PA (going to be Neuroscience major). I just need some feedback before I take the time to fill out an app for the school if my chances for OOS are low. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Also, if you feel the need to know what other colleges i'm applying for here is the list:

Reach:
Stanford
Penn
Cornell
Berkeley

Target:
JHU
Colgate
USC
UCI

Safety:
Pennstate Main
Rutgers-New Brunswick
UCD

And if you have any suggestions, it would also be greatly appreciated.

The UCs are now trying to pull in full pay students. I think you have a good shot based on that.

Berkeley is probably similarly selective for in-state and out-of-state students (and not as reachy as Stanford in most cases), since the UC minimum qualifications for out-of-state students are significantly below Berkeley’s selectivity level.

At your family income level, expect no financial aid from UCs, and realize that UCs are $50,000+ per year for out-of-state.

I figured that I would not get much from them considering im OOS and my income bracket, but it most likely won’t be a problem. Thanks for the input though. Do either of you know how I could possibly apply for scholarships to maybe cut back the costs though for more “financial breathing-room”?

You can apply for scholarships, but most are not that big, except for the Drake scholarship for mechanical engineering majors.

Underachieving…

You wont’ get anything from Berkeley because your family earns too much money.

Have you asked your parents if they’ll pay $50k per year? If not, ask them.

Well… just found out that they can only do 30K a year so there goes that idea… thanks for the input though :D
