How difficult is it to get accepted into USC's Fine Arts School?

Hello, I am currently a junior in high school. I am curious about how difficult it is to get accepted into USC's Roski School of Fine Arts. I don't see very many people talking about applying for the school. So far, USC is my number one choice. I really want to double major in drawing and pre-med. Does anyone know how difficult it is to get accepted? How competitive is it? Sorry if my question seems a little vague.

I do know USC loves diversity, so a double major in drawing and pre-med is very appealing to them.

Hi Love2draw,

Roski is EXTREMELY competitive with the numbers this year being about:

900 applicants
55-ish offers from Roski
with a yield of about 40-45 new freshmen for next fall.

Getting in: 1st step is to be admitted to USC as a regular student (stats, etc.); 2nd step be admitted to Roski (portfolio). So you have to have USC stats and then have a killer portfolio to boot.

GREAT program, one of the best in the U.S., lots of options for an artist to grow, well worth trying for. Wonderful place!

I’ve written a lot about Roski in the Visual Arts forum on CC so just search that sub-forum for more blah blah from me.

Best of Luck,
Wheaty

Hello, Wheaty. I have actually read some of your previous posts about roski and they were very helpful. I actually go to an arts high school, and they have us set to take 3 or more fine arts classes each year. (Including AP art classes). Also, I heard that USC likes diversity, and there are a lot of things that make me unique, I guess. I’m not sure how much being a urm helps. I don’t know if any of that will help, though. I am already nervous about it all, and its not even time for me to apply yet:/ Guess I’ll have to wait and see what happens…

I am currently a freshman at Parsons the New School for Design and applied to transfer out to USC Roski. I am extremely anxious about hearing back in June, I just can’t see myself living in NYC anymore (I am actually a Los Angeles native, born and raised) and the programs here no longer interest me. Since I cannot minor here, I have been extremely limited in terms of my academic flexibility. I know that Roski lets you minor in an array of disciplines which I have always wanted to do (minoring in either psychology or business) Here is some info about me—

Current University- Parsons the New School for Design
1st Semester GPA- 3.95
High School GPA- 3.7 unweighted 3.8 weighted

I also had an interview with the dean in January and she gave me a tour of the facilities- so I have done literally alllll I could do and I am going crazy with this wait! Does anyone know how selective the program is for a sophomore transfers? Do I have a chance?!

I feel like you could be very helpful! thanks!!

hi!
I was wondering how hard it would be to get in,
I have a recommendation from a professor at roski though! And im an international student.
however, my sats are like 1800…which im really worried about.
according to professors at stanford and parsons i have a strong portfolio, and some parsons professors that i have talked to acutally said i would 100% be admitted in parsons. how ever Roski is my first choice and just please let me know if you think i have a shot!

Thanks in advance

never mind ! I got in!!!

Hi everyone! I was wondering if it was possible to put fashion in the art portfolio? Thanks!
