How difficult is this freshman schedule?

My tentative schedule is now:

Honors Physics I
Honors Multivariable Calc
Honors Intro to Engineering
Expository Writing
Elementary Japanese

How difficult would you say this is? Does anyone have any experience with these courses? In high school, I got straight As and took AP classes in all subjects except English. I'm still worried if I'm overdoing myself, though I am down one class due to AP chem credit.

It would seem to me that if you took AP classes that you would have serveral credits besides just the AP Chem credit. If thats the case your ahead of the game and should if you take 12 to 15 credits a semester graduate in 4 years. Since college can be a dramatic change, why not only take 4 classes / 12 units which is still considered to be a full time student and see how well you do. It is really a slow and hard road to raise a GPA if you don’t do that well. College is a time to study, but it is also a time to interact with your peer group and enjoy your surroundings. You can take more classes the next semester if the load is too easy your first semester out.

I’m an engineering major though, so I have stringent schedules; most of my AP credits only counted as elective credit, and my AP Physics gave me no credit at all. I could drop the multivariable calc since I skipped Calc 1 and 2, but I am hoping to knock out the math now, otherwise I’ll have to take it sophomore year along with organic chem and more difficult courses. (I heard organic chem is one of the hardest classes at Rutgers)

Its a ok schedule, it might be hard due to the fact its honors but its doable especially since there is no gen chem there.

If you didn’t take honors multivariable calc, and took regular you should take it with sean O’Rourke, by far the easiest and best calc 3 teachers at rutgers. His tests are equivalent to the review and hw problems he gives. Avgs for our exams were in high 70’s. No Curve but most students got atleast a B.

Math department doesn’t release which professors teach what sections of the class but once they do you can request a special permission number for that section. There are three rounds of SPN’s for math dept and they usually deny a lot of students in third round because the limit of the class in full.

Your Intro to Engineering class is a 1 credit pass/fail if I’m not mistaken. So you have 13 credits if Calc is worth 3. You need at least 12 credits for full time.

That seems doable, even though the classes you have are difficult ones. Expos is not difficult, it is just time-consuming. Don’t wait until the last minute to do your assignments; you have to read and highlight and take notes in class. Then you’ll be fine. (Are you a strong writer? some engineers aren’t: take advantage of the Expos tutors they have available through the Plangere Writing Center. They will meet with you on a regular basis and review your work with you. Start going as soon as possible.)

Japanese seems fun. I assume you are strong in math and science (as an honors engineer student) so you should be fine.

ps I went to the honors engineering day they had this year (sometime in March? I forget) with my S2. He asked someone about the honors courses offered and the student told him that his honors professors were really good and wanted you to understand the material. So I think you will be ok.

Wait, I thought schedules were to be released on the 20th for us freshmen. How can I view mine? D: I’ve been dying to know.

thanks.

jidran - I technically don’t have my real schedule yet either. I’m in the honors engineering program though, so I know what courses I’ll be taking this Fall because it’s all mostly predetermined for us. (only thing that could change is Japanese if it doesn’t fit)

Anyway, thank you for the replies above. I am a strong writer, but I hear expos can be pretty nasty depending on the teacher. I do feel better about my schedule now though.

ah yeah, i’m also in SOE, so I’m in the same situation.

was just wondering, because I really want to know about my class times.

Regardless of the teacher that you get in Expos, your final writing portfolio will be reviewed by another member of the writing department. So there will be two people evaluating your work before you get your final grade.
