For example, getting into UCLA oos = getting into X college

I know it depends on a number of factors, but I need some sort of comparison scale. Would one say it is the level of UMich/UVA oos or emory/georgetown level or NYU level, or what?

UCLA is the only UC campus that does NOT favor in-state applicants. In fact, since 2006, OOS applicants have slightly higher acceptance rate compared to in-state applicants. See the stats at [Profile of Admitted Freshmen - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/Prospect/Adm_fr/Frosh_Prof.htm).

I dont think ucla explicitly states they dont favor in state. Based on the stats, it seems they prefer out of state, but its also because oos applicants tend to have higher stats and gpas (they tend to apply to other elite schools, ivies as well)

What about international students? Is it generally seen as being harder for international students to get in?

Their admit rate is lower, but I don’t know if it might be because their stats are lower (due English not being their first language). I’ve always assumed that internationals are slightly more competitive (since primarily strong students will apply internationally), but I might be wrong.

@hewhothrows, UCLA actually states the campus favors in-state applicants which can be considered true since more than 80% of the students are CA residents. But if you look at the admit rate, OOS students stand a slightly better chance of getting in; which can, of course, be attributed to “better quality” applicants as you indicated.

@Sci-Fry, admit rates for international applicants are low across the board for all UCs, not just UCLA.

Really? Are you sure? Because you’ve just made my day. If UCLA does favor oos, then I am assuming I am a chance? I live in Iowa, great grades, AP courseload (11), and 1990 sat? Will take it again, of course.

Son get into UCLA engineering OOS and will start in the fall(also got into CAL, Davis, San Diego, Santa Barbara). All AP and honors courses possible, 2120 SAT, 9th out 425 in his class- Looking at the stats of the UCs I really do think it was a little easier to get in as an OOS this year (they want that extra money). Hope this info helps and best of luck!
