I’m Asian, and I will be going to a boarding school with my twin sister this coming fall. I know that this varies from school to school and from person to person, but I was just wondering on how it feels to be an Asian student in a boarding school.
It depends on the school, but you guys could be in the majority at some places. I know of a boarding school in our town that has almost 50% Asian students. I am sure it will be fine. Make sure to reach out and make many friends, from everywhere. Do not stick too close to each other! That way you can get 2x as many friends. Good luck.
@mexusa Thank you! But I heard that there are actually very few Asians in the school that I am about to go to… I’m not that worried though, because I’m sure things will be alright
Are you Asian from Asia? Or Asian American? Asian students from Asia sometimes prefer to socialize only within others who speak their own language.
As @mexusa states don’t do this, avoid joining the Asian clique.
My younger son attends a school as a day student but 90% of the boarders are from China or Korea. These students avoid the day students and cluster among same tongue speakers.
@sgopal2 I am an Asian from Asia, but I go to an American school with a lot of Americans. So I’m not so worried about joining the Asian clique, but just a bit curious if things at the states might be different.
You should be fine, just don’t be a jerk. My roommate is from South Korea and is honestly one of the most disrespectful human beings I’ve ever met. At my school, there is an unspoken ‘competition’ if you will, between the Asians and who can get the better grades, but I don’t think that’s at all schools.
