I want to transfer to Canada from Ohio and my mother doesn't want me to go, so she is making the argument that Canadians don't like Americans and that ya'll will be very cruel and mean..I am not sure if she is just saying this as propaganda to make me want to stay or if she has some idea of what she is talking about (although I really doubt THAT because she has never been out of this country, barely out of this state)..All of ya'll seem to be nice in the forums....but how's the vibe up there..(I moved with my family from OH to GA for about 1yr and a half so if I can take that "I hate Yankees" b.s. at age ten, I'm sure I could take some negative vibes from up North if that were the case...but I was just curious...how do ya'll in Canada feel (not about the country itself, but just the people who come over from the US??

Unless you are coming to Canada just to abuse the legal drinking age, you should have no problem.

Well thats good to know b/c I don't really like to drink..plus i'm only 18

We're nice, don't worry!

Some of us just think it's funny when some people know absolutely nothing about Canada. Even at MUN (with supposedly intelligent students), we got asked by a lot of people to have their pictures taken with "real Canadians". So basically, if you're normal and want to learn, you'll be fine (which it seems like you are). If you act stupid and try to tell us that we live in igloos... not so much (and yeah, I've actually had that one happen too).

I think we are a lot more accepting than most cultures in the world. You should fit right in.

Where are you looking to transfer to?

canadians are the nicest people in the world, for the most part.

but no matter where you go, there will always be haters. however, we dont hate americans, unless you align yourself strongly with Bush or something. Harhar. maybe your mom just doesnt want you to leave home?

but the people here are phenomenal. so sweet and kind, and they'll make you feel right at home, since anada is such a multi-cultural and growing country!

I want to transfer from Kent State Univ. (in Ohio) to Brescia College of UWO. It has a small college feel but big campus advantages..I am studying Nutrition and Food to be a r.d.

Yeah Pres. Bush sucks....my boyfriend was watching his stupid State of the Union address (ya know, that speech where he makes a lot of empty promises using big words like war, patriotism, family values, and other b.s. propaganda) which really digusted me to know that he would even want to hear what Bush had to say...yeah I hate Pres. Bush..you probably noticed..

lol. We analysed the State of the Union address in International Politics class. I would respect him if he could at least speak English without inventing words. Notice how they never actually let him answer questions by himself... :S

UWO is supposedly a good school. I'm from the West so I don't know much about it, but most people form Ontario seem to love it, which is usually good. Just make sure that if you come up here you visit Montreal - it's my favorite city in Canada.
