Aid for international students is so limited that it is possibly the biggest factor in admission. There is nothing you can judge from this about other results.

theres no way she’ll get into mit, hyps or anything of that sort. once you sat scores hit a certain low, the admissions committee just simply stops caring about your background, hardships, and all that jazz…

Yeah, I kind of figured that…But what about her other colleges?

Mt. Holyoke
Smith
Bryn Mawr
Wellesley

or

Middlebury
Williams (needs blind)
Brandeis

???

I know MIT, HYS, Dartmouth, and others are all out. But what about the ones listed above? Does she have ANY reasonable shot?

Mt. Holyoke doesn’t require SAT scores, so if your friend didn’t send them, she has a realistic shot.
Judging by the 2008 Admissions Data for Smith, Smith is a small reach.

Bryn Mawr is a moderate reach.

Wellesley and Brandeis are moderate-high reaches.
[Wellesley College Profile - SAT Scores and Admissions Data for Wellesley College](Wellesley College: Acceptance Rate, SAT/ACT Scores)
http://collegeapps.about.com/od/collegeprofiles/p/brandeis.htm
Wesleyan, Middlebury, Williams, etc. are very high reaches.

I’m justing going by SAT I scores here. Her grades are presumably spectacular and her SAT II scores are excellent, so basically the only issue with her is the question of her fluency in English. HYS, Williams, etc. might be reluctant to admit her just because of the possibility that she might not be able to keep up with “rapid, idiomatic English.”

dont no anything bout the schools u listed above other than hyps and mit
srry

So much cynicism…
Congrats to this girl, I am sure the admission panel made the right choice.

I thnk she has a decent shot - the sat Iis are insanely good! Try taking the SATs again - improving the WR section score shouldn’t be too big of a problem, but you never know with these schools. If she has presented ehrself well on the applicaiton, she has a good chance of getting in. So, my suggestion is go for it, and work very hard on the application - show personality, not just academics. Good luck!

Oh, and @kellogs: about the scores - I highly doubt that the top tier schools stop looking at applications just because the scores are too low. There are people who get into ivy leagues with subscores. The admission office evaluates every application. Talent cannot be found (only) in test scores - the application has more substance in it than test scores!

Stop, she got accepted to MIT yesterday.

@Adrenaline
Are you sure?
Well, not much I can say but I wish the best for her. What a blessed mind she has. May one of the top 10 USA universities accept her.

YAY! good for her!!

Good stuff. Inspiring. Ima go hit the books. =)
