How do I apply for the SAT? And should I take AP Calc exam BEFORE applying?

I'm a junior in my spring semester and know that that's when most students first take the SAT. But how do I sign up to take it? I thought the school would say something to all students like it was the FCAT, but I guess not. So, what do I do? Do I sign up online or something? I live in FL btw
And, should I take the ACT too? Will it help me? Are there any schools that require both test scores? (I really want to go to UF, University of Florida).

Next year I'm a senior and I'm going to take AP Calculus AB and BC. Should I take the AB Calc AP exam BEFORE applying to colleges? I really want to go to UF, and the best chance I can get. I'd be applying in the Fall of course, along with other colleges, and it might help to have my AP scores by then. I could self study during the summer to be prepared for to take the exam part way through the course, or is this just unreasonable? I haven't taken AP classes (i'm dual-enrolled taking classes at a community college, but I heard that universities don't weight that very well), and I'm a little afraid of hurting my chances to get into the college I really want to go to.

Make an account if you don’t have one and sign up to take the test. If you took the PSAT, I believe you already have an account… May need to look your PSAT score report. Not sure.

Schools will not require both. They will accept either test. It’s really in your best interest to at least try the ACT; some students do quite a bit better on one test than the other. Many avoid the ACT all together though. Up to you. You can register for that at [ACT, Inc. : A Student Site for ACT Test Takers](<a href=“The ACT Test for Students | ACT”>http://www.actstudent.org/) .

Make sure to look at the schools requirements for test taking. Some schools, if you’re submitting an SAT score, also want you to take SAT subject tests. You sign up for those in the same way as the SAT; they’re kinda similar to AP Exams. Just make sure to check at some point and see if you’ll need to take them.

AP Exams are on a set schedule in May. Each exam is given on a particular day at a particular time nationwide. It’s not possible to take the test early before you apply (You will have applied long before May). For admission, your AP scores aren’t very important anyway. Taking the course is what colleges like to see- you don’t even have to report the scores until after you are admitted and are trying to get credits for your exam scores.

By the way, you should NOT take AB and BC calculus the same year. It’s redundant. BC is not a separate topic from AB; it’s just AB and extra material. The BC course covers all of the AB curriculum. When you take the BC exam, you actually get a AB subscore on the exam as well. I’d be really surprised if your counselor allowed you to take both. And even if they did, colleges would not be impressed by you taking both; it just doesn’t make sense.

Joel-
You need to sign up for the ACT plus Writing.
You can self study strategies for taking the ACT with Writing.
You missed all the registration deadlines except for the June test. Register for it today.

He’s only a junior. He has a lot of time.

Yes, but it is best to plan ahead. There are no more test dates for the ACT available to register for this school year, and only the May or June SAT’s. If he is planning on applying for Early Decision/Action at a college in the fall, it is best to take either the ACT or SAT at least once, so that there will be a score recorded. Ideally, one would want to take a standardized test twice, so that you can choose which scores to send to colleges.
