IM SORRY T__T im just really confused and have 28972984 questions ldsjfsdjfl
ok ok so i went on this site
U of M - Office of Admissions - Checklist for Admitted Freshmen
and went to this link
University of Minnesota-Twin Cities
and just paid 250 but
like it didnt .. do anything?
i paid the 250 but there wasnt any like ~HEY GIRL CONGRATS WOOT~ or anything, it was just ok transaction approved bye.
is that it?
but i cant see that anything changed on MyU page?

boop…If the transaction showed as approved, you should be all set. You might check your student e-mail account to see if perhaps a confirmation e-mail gets sent to you. Either way, once the enrollment deposit is processed by the university (this may take a few days) the “My College” tab on your MyU page will have a link for an Admitted Student Checklist. You will take a New Student survey and then will be able to schedule your Orientation for this summer.

1 down…28,972,983 to go. :)

ohhh ok ok. under one stop quick review, it says student account balance is “-250.00”… is that normal?

Mine says that too. I think that means we owe “-250”, which means it has yet to be put into the orientation/housing fee. I think we’re good, haha.

The $250 enrollment fee has been applied to your student accounts. That’s why you show a credit balance (i.e. minus $250). That amount will count towards and be “subtracted” from your first semester tuition/fees/room&board charges.

ohhh alright alright thats cool. i thought it meant that uminn didnt receive my 250 or something haha.

i have another question though, i just got an email that says i need to pay 250 for housing guarantee by 5/15. does anyone know if there are more things like that? i didn’t think i was going to be needing much more money until later… if u is going to ask me to pay for more things (esp payments larger than like 100 dollars) i need to know a little in advance so my family can prepare the money because we’re kind of tight on money right now.

and how exactly does all the money things work? do i get the loan THEN pay my tuition monthly? when do i get the scholarships/grants? are they kind of like the “already paid, you dont have to worry about it” portion of the tuition or is it like a refund-type of thing, where i pay first and then get money back? do i have to pre-pay for dorm at once. or can i divide that to monthly payments along with the tuition?

boop - last year we also had a ton of questions and I found that the admissions people are very good about answering questions. I think you should give them a call to put your mind at ease. It really does all work out in the end, but I don’t want you to miss any deadlines in case one of us forgets to remind you of something. If you want to ask specific questions, have your student ID# handy.

It really helped us to get our papers organized because there is so much of it and it can easily become overwhelming or get lost. We did a 3 ring binder by subject ($$, housing, major requirements/courses, etc. Paper clips and post it notes would also work.

boop…One of the MANY great things we’ve found about the U is the way they handle billing and payments of tuition/fees/room and board. A lot of universities require your bill to be paid in full prior to the first day of classes or your account is put on hold and you cannot start classes. In many cases, financial aid disbursement has not been completed by the first day of class, and students at other universities either have to come up with a large chunk of change so their child can start classes, and wait for a refund once FA is fully disbursed.

The U makes it MUCH easier on us parents. They do ask for small deposits up front (as you’ve seen for enrollment and for housing) but they allow time for the FA disbursement process to run its course before requiring a larger payment. For example, the Fall 2012 semester begins classes on Tuesday, Sept 4th (although as an incoming freshman Gopher you’ll start Welcome Week earlier than that…probably Wed, Aug 29th). Other than the deposits, you won’t be required to make a payment of the balance of your student account until Oct 3rd, and you can opt to pay in 3 installments over the course of several weeks. There is an additional surcharge if you use the installment plan, so it’s best to pay your balance in full if possible but at least you’re able to attend classes while waiting for your loans/scholarships/grants to be fully processed.

As Kajon said, don’t be afraid to call the admissions office and ask additional questions. We’ve always found them to be extremely friendly and helpful, and they’ll certainly help make your transition to the U go more smoothly. Good Luck!!

Boop - I think textbooks were the only other item we paid for before the scholarship monies were in the account. Though I believe we could have charged the books to S2’s student account instead of paying cash.

Wolvererine - I cannot believe our kids are about to finish their freshman year. It has been a great year and we are still excited about the U of MN which is why I still look at this forum.

S2’s grades are wonderful, his research grant project was fun and last week we heard that they are going to increase his Benston scholarship for Jr & Sr years - Hooray my check book!

^Completely agree Kajon. I’m completely impressed with everything about the U and would recommend it to anyone!! It’s unnatural for a Wolverine fan to try and recruit for the Gophers, but maybe I’m just softening in my old age. :)
