<p>A chemistry program that I'm applying for at the EPA requires a writing sample from 3-5 pages that demonstrates business writing on any subject.</p>
<p>I'm currently at a loss of what to send in as my writing sample, since most of the writing I've done is academic. Any ideas?</p>

<p>That seems like an odd request and one that's pretty long. An example could be a bid on a project or a Request for Proposal. An example from the EPA could be a letter to someone answering a question about an environmental matter.</p>
<p>A really simple writing sample could go like this:</p>

<p>Thank-you for your inquiry about Gatorjuice products and where they are produced.</p>
<p>All Gatorjuice products are made in the United States.</p>
<p>If you have further questions about our products, please feel free to contact us.</p>

Customer Service, Gatorjuice Inc.</p>
<p>Maybe you could write something that one would commonly encounter in business such as progress reports, inspection notes, business communication/memo, marketing pamphlet etc?</p>
<p>For example, if you want to write a progress report, take a hypothetical situation or adapt a circumstance in your life and draft it in the form of a report for your boss to update him/her on the situation. </p>
<p>That's how I would understand the prompt.</p>
