How do I get letters of recommendation from college professors if I go to school online?

I am currently studying for my BA in Criminal Justice online through Columbia College (South Carolina). I have approximately 8 classes left before I am finished with undergrad. I would like to go to graduate school in Spring 2016 and am currently looking at a few graduate degree programs that I am interested in. For one of these programs, one of the admissions requirements is to submit two letters of recommendation (but it doesn’t specify from professors). However, because all of my classes are online, I have not met any of my professors face to face, or had any sort of professional relationship with them. What can I, or should I, do? How do I go about getting these letters of recommendation if I don’t have a relationship with my professors?

I’m in the same boat. I’m graduating next spring and I’ve done my entire program online at East Carolina. I’m thinking of moving near campus so I can at least make contacts by stopping by the professors offices every now and then. I have no clue how it works for us. I need two or three letters of recommendation myself for the program I’m going into and have absolutely no clue right now who can write them for me.

If you think of something please let me know! if it came down to it… i write one for you, you write one for me  haha

Well, that’s one of the issues with online education. Most graduate programs require letters of recommendation, and they should be from professors. If you need two at least one (but both would be better) should be from a professor, and if you need three than two should be from professors (preferably all three).

You can ask one of your online professors if they feel that they know you well enough to give you a recommendation on the basis of your performance in the class. Lots of students get recommendations from professors from large lecture classes they didn’t know that well on the basis of their performance; while these aren’t ideal, they do satisfy the requirement. You could then get a better recommendation from someone who knows you better and works in the field that you want to get the master’s in. Like let’s say it’s an MSN; you could get a professional reference for an MSN or nursing PhD holder that you did an internship with or shadowed.

If you have no one who can write recommendations for you even after thinking through that, then you’ll probably need to do something in between your BA and your master’s that will allow you to get recommendations.
