This semester, I'm in this class where we don't get that much work. We've had like ten assignments the entire semester, and I've missed like two of them. So, that severely damaged my grade in the class. I'm not a bad student, I just genuinely forgot about those assignments. He will absolutely not let me make them up, and I have a 78 in the class. It is nearing the end of the semester and I do not want the 78 to go on my transcript. I know that if he gives us at least one more assignment my grade will go up to at least a B. But, he literally has not given us ONE homework assignment since MARCH. So, my grade has stayed there since then.

I only have two class periods left, and me and some other kids that need to bring up their grades keep asking him to give us some homework. But, he doesn't. And we don't have other kids' support because most others in there are fine with failing the class (it's an elective). So, what do I do? I'm running out of time and I really don't want to end the class with only a 78.

I would tell him exactly what you’re telling us. Including the fact that you care enough to actually make an effort to bring it to his attention. Just be polite but firm about it and I would talk to him before or after class. Just ask him right before class starts, “I need to discuss my grade with you. Is now a good time or should I wait until after class?”

I did it with my Art teacher who had me doing side stuff and I wasn’t able to do the actual classwork she was giving me. I also did it with my English teacher who would take my rough draft to grade but procrastinated in grading it, therefore I wasn’t able to edit it.

You can’t get a teacher to change around his/her ways of teaching just because you didn’t turn in some assignments and now your grade is suffering. It’s your own fault for not turning them in. Rather rely on some ******** homework points, study harder for tests.

Also, I’ll add that he doesn’t give us tests AT ALL. NO TESTS ALL SEMESTER. We literally haven’t done any work, except these daily journals that he doesn’t grade us on. Argh. lol.

I genuinely forgot to do the assignment is not excuse enough to get the teacher to change your grade. So sucks I guess but it was completely your fault and it doesn’t matter what kind of student you are, you get what you get.

Since we’re on this subject, I have a similar problem.

Basically, last semester, my AP Chem teacher gave us bathroom points that we could turn in for extra credit. But I lost them, and he refused to believe me. We’re allowed to retake one test, and I felt I aced it, but I only got 7% higher. I might have used the wrong version or something. I asked him to double-check, and he never did. I asked again today, and he said he recycled it. I was .6% from the next grade.

Should I try to haggle last semester’s grade?

This is what happened to me once. There were about 5 total assignments and I did poorly on one due to several factors beyond my control, thus giving me a B+ in religion, of all classes.

If you can convey your passion to get the B in his/her class, then I think he should give you some way to get your points. That is, unless he is a ruthless/stupid/first-year teacher.

I hope so, Owen. I mean now, we literally have only one class period left, and of course, today we got no homework (ugh), so unless we do something during the last class period, I’m screwed. lol.

Yup. So I’m basically completely screwed. My only problem is that he threw out the test after I specifically requested that he keep it. Sounds fishy.
