I'm a Sophomore so I still haven't taken the SAT or any AP tests, but I want to know what I can do to increase my chances at the Ivy League or Stanford(I live in CA). The only reason I am even suggesting that I have a change at these Universities is because of my class rank and number of AP classes I'm taking. My rank is 1/1089 and I am taking the most APs at my school. I am in a few clubs and I plan on doing volunteer work also. What SAT score and ECs will get me into these schools?

I appreciate that you have started early I regret for not doing that :(

If you’re an Asian or an ORM you need to get a hook.

Do something great. Build a thinking robot or intern with a Nobel Laureate or initiate a poverty alleviation movement in Uganda. Take the SAT/ACT…try to be an overachiever on them…get a 2350+ with one or two 800’s…take more AP’s…take more than 10…take IB’s also if you can…I mean you’ve to hit hard in all directions…best of luck

I’m from India, does that qualify me as an Asian? And excuse me for my ignorance, but what is a hook?

Yea, you’re Asian (and I hate being that too!)

Hook: examples of hooks are Legacy (any relative attended that college), URM (Under Represented Minority which you aren’t), First generation college student (first from your family to attend college) or being a recruited athlete

If you don’t have on of these, try to impress the admissions committee by doing something special like the ones I mentioned in my last post.

Sadly, the Ivies could fill their classes many times over with perfect GPA, 2400 SAT and loads of APs students. My recomendation is do whatever you love doing and achieve in it. For example if you love math try to get into the AIME or USAMO; if you love music then win some competitions or play in a big time youth orchestra etc.

Yes, keep that high rank and score very well on the SAT/SAT II.

Then do very well in one - three things. I am talking about academic competitions. If you want a good list of them [Links to Academic Competitions](http://cty.jhu.edu/imagine/linkbs.htm) here.
How many of theses shouldyou do? Depends on how much you want Ivies. Yea I know like 90% of those things listed, your school has probably never heard of. But that is what GOING BEYOND THE CLASSROOM EXPERIENCE IS ALL ABOUT. A instrumental part of Ivy acceptance, is seeing you go where no one in you school has.
