How do I qualify for the Regents Scholarship?

How do the UC's choose candidates for the Regents Scholarship? What stats do I need to have in order to be selected. I heard UCB selects 1% of the applicants for this scholarship..what stats do they look at? What is the average stats for selected students?

Thank you all in advance.

I heard it’s pretty random. One of my out of state friends got it and her stats weren’t that high. People from the Berkeley/SF area + OOS seem to have a high chance of landing this scholarship. I haven’t done my research so my answer is just merely from what I have heard/read on this forum/friends!

This is the statistics I know from mine and other friends

UW GPA= 3.9-4.0
Weighted GPA- 4.4-4.5 (full score)
SAT 2250-2400
SAT2 , at least 2-3 subjects ,770-800
There were an interview of nearly 2,000 semifinals with outstanding academic records and personal achievement before they make a final selection
The persons I know are all have excellent academic records

Generally, high stats like those posted above plus some good EC’s will usually warrant candidate status. Most if not all of the scholars I know, including myself, have stats that fall within that range. For me, they gave me the scholarship a few days after admissions came out without having contacted me about the scholarship at all beforehand (no interviews, etc). Keep in mind that the UC’s offer Regent’s to people they think will get accepted into top private schools to lure them away. If you consider yourself competitive for top privates, chances are you will be competitive for the scholarship. Other than that, I’d imagine strong essays will only help them make the case for why they should give you the scholarship, and interviews are there to make sure you’re consistent with the person you present yourself to be in your application. Hope that answers your question.

Alright, ignore my post! Should have done more research before I post random crap haha, sorry!
