Hey guys. Is anyone really confused by the convoluted descriptions of the 6 colleges at UCSD?

Could someone please clarify it in real life terms? I would like to study Molecular biology or english, but most likely MCB.

heh...it does seem confusing.

my friend picked thurgood marshall college, just because he didn't know what the differences were and thurgood marshall was the only name he recognized (him being somewhat of a history buff)

Ok, well this question is asked all the time and there are a lot of myths and false information regarding how important it is to pick a college.

First, yes you do have to rank the colleges of your choice when you apply to UCSD via the UC admission application. It's the only university in the UC system to do this and why UCSD is such a unique, and in my opinion, great, school.

The various colleges do their own selection of the students they wish to admit to the school. So yes, choosing your college is very very important because they are the one accepting or rejecting you! People are constantly whining that they got rejected because of their stellar applications for various reasons, one reason may be that they picked the completely wrong college.

Now you can study any major at any of the colleges but certain colleges like Earl Warren College, for instance, is known as the "Engineering" College because the Jacobs School of Engineering and most of the Engineering schools are located on the Warren Campus. Naturally they will not be accepting a lot of Dance Majors. Some food for thought.

It's really important to do the research on the colleges at UCSD and make your choices accordingly. Hope this helps.
