Hi i'm just wondering what your experiences are in the different colleges at UCSD. When I applied I just numbered them randomly which is pretty dumb so what are the differences between them?

thanks

for your reading pleasure, a 75-replies post on UCSD's six-college system:

seriously people, USE THE SEARCH TOOL. otherwise i'm going to archive my answers to questions like "does ucsd really have no social life?" or "is chem 6bl hard?" or "[fill your own in here]" and copy-paste them whenever another redundant post shows up.

Here's a summary:

Your major has nothing to do with your college. The college you are in determines which GE's you are required to take, and where you live on campus.

Revelle is known for having rigorous science and math requirements, and is the oldest of the six colleges.

Muir is known for having flexible GE requirements.

Marshall isn't really "known" for much (I can't really think of anything that differentiates it from the others). It has a good dining hall (Ocean View Terrace).

Eleanor Roosevelt has the newest buildings (including dining hall and housing) and is fairly impressive-looking (because it was practically just built). It a fairly long walk to the center of campus, though. According to what I have heard, social science related majors prefer ERC (which would make sense, considering who it is named after).

Warren is located near the largest concentration of engineering buildings, and has a large number of engineers (but I don't know if it is because of their location, or the GE's).

Sixth college is the newest college (I think it was founded five years ago). It hasn't been named yet. It probably has the second most flexible set of GE's, after Muir. It's theme is "Culture, Art and Technology".

Honestly, I think anyone could be successful at any college. The housing is about the same everywhere (don't believe any rumors you hear; inside the buildings you get about the same at each college). The GE's should be a consideration (but I really don't think the difference between any two of the colleges is that notable).

Every college has something good about it. Do some research on the ucsd website.
