I would like to know how to start off an appeal letter?
Do I write something like Dear, University of … I would like you to reconsider your decision. Your University is still my first choice. I recently took a standardized test and raised my test scores. Currently I am enrolled in two core courses and recieved an A in both World Lit and Calculus.
How long is the letter suppose to be? And what exactly do I talk about?

But I'm not sure about writing "Dear, University of..."

Look at your rejection/waitlist letter and see who signed it (probably Assistant Dean of Admissions or Dean of Ad. or something). Look up their contact info on the internet (if you'd like to use e-mail instead of a letter); in any case, address your letter/e-mail to THAT person (while of course mailing any letters you write to the Office of Admission). That's what I was told to do.

First, read what the schools say about appeals. Many tell you that current grades are not grounds. If this is what your school says, don't start with the new As. Really focus on good grounds and highlight those right from the start.

Appeal letters are tricky because there is no right or wrong way to approach it. I think you should address your appeal to the person who signed the letter you recieved in the mail. The length of you letter depends on how much/little you have to say. It shouldn't be so short that people think you put little effort into it, but it also shouldn't be so long where it sounds like you are carrying on. You did good touching on your recent accomplishmens, but go into more detail about why you really need to be at their institution. Sure, they want to hear the new things you have done, but they also want to hear that you truly want the opportunity of attending this particular place. Tell the things you can gain, but also the things you can contribute. Tell why the college/university is a reflection of who you are/ a place that connects with you. I can't really tell you what to say because I don't know you, but my suggestion is to be honest becasue this is your last chance to show these people why you deserve to be there.
