Hey guys. My name is Suzanne and I am a sophomore at Community College in Florida. I fell in love with Sweden this summer and really need to go again. The town in which I reside and my school kind of sucks. Help! I know Sweden is really expensive. Are there any foreign exchange programs or cheap dorm arrangements I could do? Any Study Abroad kind of programs for Sweden! Thank you.

Are you going to transfer to a four year college after finishing at your community college? You can talk to the study abroad office at any college you are considering and see whether it is possible to study abroad in Sweden. Not sure what the implications are for a transfer student, though – there might be requirements for how many credits you have to complete on campus that could be a problem. So you would have to look at that as well. My D wanted to study in Finland, which was also unusual, and we found that talking to the study abroad office at each college she was considering (as a freshman, though) was the only way to really get a straight answer.

Other options might be to take a year off from college and be an au pair. Sweden is awfully expensive; we traveled there when my D went to Finland and really loved it, so I see why you want to go back! But the au pair route would cover your expenses, although it would take a year out of your education.

I can’t post the URL of the website that has a good comprehensive search tool for study abroad programs, but you should be able to find it on the study abroad section of the university you will be attending.
It allows you to search by country/city, length of stay, and by your home university.
