How do I Update?

Recently, (last week) I was notified that I had won two awards that I had not mentioned in my applications. What should I do to notify schools about the awards?

I was thinking about writing a letter and sending it to them.

If it helps, I am applying to Deerfield, Exeter, and Andover.

If the awards are significant, send a short email to each of the schools.

So would an e-mail be preferable compared to a letter?

For schools with Jan 15 and Feb 1 deadlines, files are already being read. If you want the awards to be considered, the communication needs to be added to your file as soon as possible. So, for that reason, email would be preferable.

But keep it short - very short. Just the facts: “On January 19, I was awarded the Nobel prize.” End of story, no discussion.

If you interviewed with an admissions officer, you can address it to that person, in which case it can be a tiny bit longer: “Hi! I just want to let you know that I ended up winning the Nobel prize!”
