How do people receive admissions?

I know this is a really dumb question but how do people receive decision notifications? Do they receive them in an email or are they posted on the college portal?

colleges have their own preferred methods. Portals seem to be the majority these days.

Of the nine schools I applied to, 7 came out via portal. One (an EA safety school) called me, and then sent the decision by mail. One just mailed it. When the time comes closer to decision day, colleges should tell you where the notification will be.

I’ve heard of decisions coming by email, portals and my D’s college still uses snail mail. The schools will let you know how their decisions come out.

Most schools send admission notice by e-mail either directly or tell you to check the portal. However, they will also send a letter or admission package through snail mail.

They don’t come on the CommonApp. Some go by email. Some make you set up an account on their website (AKA Portal) and you’ll be able to check on a specific date. Some websites are more elaborate than others. You usually get a letter in the mail for acceptance/rejection/waitlist a few days after you receive the only decision.

Portals usually. I got most of them through portals and then later received a letter/package in the mail. Although in cases where I was notified a bit earlier than most applicants it was through email or a letter.
