How do the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards work?

How do I sign up for it? It says I need an educator. Can that just be any teacher? I have a lot of questions.

Hi! Feel free to ask me any questions you have. I’ve done the Scholastic Writing Awards every year since the 8th grade (including attending the national ceremony at Carnegie Hall), and as a current senior, I’d like to say I’m pretty familiar with the process.

That said, “educator” is deliberately ambiguous for a reason. I always picked an English teacher, but it just needs to be a teacher or mentor who is familiar enough with your work to attest that, to the best of their knowledge, it is entirely original. I’ve heard of people using writing/art workshop mentors, teachers in other subjects, etc. From what I’ve heard, they’re not particularly strict about this.

Kind of a dumb question, but does an educator have to read my work?

It depends solely on the preference of your educator. When I submitted to the contest last year, my teacher didn’t read my pieces; she just signed the forms. So it really depends on the teacher.

Does anyone know what file format I should upload for writing? word or pdf?

hi i’m lk stalking u because i’m ur copres!!! but it shouldn’t be a file format – you should just copy paste it! cheers!
