Scholastic Art & Writing Awards

I have a question about submitting a poem into the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. It’s Christmas Break and I just finished my poem. I went to the site and tried completing my registration, but there’s a part where they require you to choose a teacher that helped you with your project.

I did my project by myself in my home. My English teacher knows nothing about this contest. Apparently there are forms she needs to sign. Should I email her about this now? When we get back from break, there will only be two days before the submissions are due. What should I do? I’m thinking I will have to wait until next year.

For the past two years, I also did all my writing at home, by myself. No input from teachers. I did have a teacher sign the form each time as requested. I think they require it to try to ensure that no one is plagarizing but I’m not sure. The first year, my teacher read it over, made some suggestions (which I didn’t use because the deadline was the next day) and ended up with a Silver Key (regional). This year, it was a different teacher and she didn’t even look at my work before signing. We’ll see what happens! Good luck! I think if you have your teacher sign the first day back and then mail the next day (deadline), it should be fine. But they are very strict about having the postmark on or before the due date so you may want to wait til next year if you can’t be sure it will be postmarked on the right date.
