HOW DO THEY CALCULATE THE WRITING SECTION IN SAT ii?

how do they calculate the writing section???
i got 49 on mc and a 9 on essay...530
my friend got 41 on mc and 9 on essay...610

how?!
im confused ...

The "official" answer:

Your essay counts for 1/3 of your score. the MC-- 2/3.

The essay is read by two scores, each of whom will give the essay one score 1-6. Those scores are then added together.

To me, it's kinda BS... How in the world do they take the essay score and convert it into the 650s and 700s we see as our final score? Blech...

Anyway, the the raw score from the MC portion is recalculated to compensate for tests' variance in degrees of difficulty. So, even if you got the same number wrong on two tests, you won't have indentical scores. The statistically "harder" test will have the better score.

^That's most likely what happened with your friend's score.^ But meh... CB has the weirdest scoring system. We all just have to take our scores on faith.

I got a 55 and 8 essay ---> 560
