How do transfer AP credits work?

Okay, I have 28 credits as an incoming freshman from my AP exams. I'm in Steinhardt majoring in GPH/Nutrition (<a href="http://steinhardt.nyu.edu/nutrition/gph/dietetics/curriculum">http://steinhardt.nyu.edu/nutrition/gph/dietetics/curriculum</a>). I need 60 lib arts credits, 69 core credits for my major.

I'm just a little confused about what my AP credits "do". They don't satisfy any of my required classes on the curriculum list for my major. So I will just graduate with 28 extra credits? Is there any benefit to that?

Also, I am allowed 10 liberal arts electives. Can I fit a minor in with this, or do my AP credits count as electives and will take up that space? The minors I am interested in require 14-18 credits.

They count as elective credits, so you could potentially graduate early if you play your cards right. Alternately, they might get you out of some of the core requirements so that you have time to take classes towards a minor. What specific APs do you have? Some count just for credit, while others count towards requirements.
