<p>I agree absolutely. I felt the same way when I went through. I am a big believer that only those who think that way should attend a Service Academy, and that those who do the best job of expressing that belief get the first cracks at nominations and appointments, and with good reason.</p>
<p>But facts is facts. There are definite advantages to leading. Some are tangible: pay, accomodations, billets, etc. Others are more mercurial but nonetheless very (if not more) important: pride, sense of service, commitment to your people, etc.</p>
<p>Bottom line: It is a PRIVILEGE to lead, and that privilege must be EARNED. Once you've earned it, little else really matters, but the perks are nice, too.</p>
