yeah.. just wondering. they havnt sent me anything at all. :(

They won't. Their FAQ drives the point home beautifully. "if you've sent all documents to us, then we'll have it." i tried calling them up once and there was an automatic message discouraging applicants from checking their status over the phone.

They are going to send u a postcard saying your app is complete or not and if not they are going to give u some time to complete it. Thats at least what they told me

an example of one of the many reasons Hopkins went from my unmatched first choice school to fourth or fifth. do i want to go to a school that doesn't give a crap about me? no.

^ exactly. Last year JHU was my number one choice for their splendid BME major. However, i've had bad experiences with Hopkins since then. Now it's more like third/fourth.

what are you talking about?! just because they wont tell you that your app is complete is no reason to dismiss them. first, just because they wont tell you, doesnt mean they dont care about you. i personally felt they cared more about me as an applicant than any of the other schools i was applying to. for instance, you call Penn's admissions office and they put you on hold for ~10 minutes before you even get to talk to some secretary who cant help you anyways.

this application policy makes perfect sense to me. and to say that hopkins overall doesn't care about you is bull. and paulhomework...what bad experiences have you had?

Seriously things people say.

I sent in my app early December and I just received a postcard today acknowledging my application. Don't worry- it may take a while ;)

whoa, did no one see that I wrote it's "an example" - which means, by inference, not the main cause!

Let's clear some things up here:
1. I didn't dismiss Hopkins, yarrr03, I said that it is no longer my first choice school.
2. johnkgh, it would be a superficial view if that's the only reason why Hopkins went down on my list. But it's not.

Over the summer I went on tours of Hopkins, Duke, and Emory and, of the three, the experience at Hopkins was the least appealing. Another thing, I emailed the finaid office like 2 weeks ago with a question and have still not heard anything back from them. Every college I've ever emailed, which is probably around 15, always responded within 5 days. Also, one of my friends went to Hopkins and one went to Duke. The Duke one is off the wall happy about the whole situation while the Hopkins one, in the few opportunities I've had to talk with her, is much more subdued about the whole thing and told me that Hopkins is "okay." Of course, these things by themselves are seemingly insignificant, but I personally feel that they reflect a more general disregard for applicants, and, by extension, undergrads.

So, please lay off and stop with the "get the hell out of here" crap.

yea its better you state it that way :)

You are entitled to your opinions ofcourse. I have friends that have transferred from ivies, duke/stanford to here, but does that really say anything? Even you yourself have stated your friend's opinions may be insignificant. And somehow you attribute the lack of responses by the admissions office to not caring about applicants to eventually not caring about undergrads. I have to ask what the hell are you talking about? Why don't you actually try calling them? Admissions/finaid email is very slow here since there is a limited number of people working in admissions here. Generally a few part time students and adcoms are responsible for the hundreds of emails that come in daily. Calling is by far more effective. In the end however, if you are so easily dissuaded by the mere process of applying and visiting, don't bother coming here. There are far more deserving people than you who actually WANT to come here.

sounds like a plan because i really don't want to go there. all those times I've said it's my fourth or fifth choice, hell, that was just for kicks and giggles. what am i thinking? Hopkins sucks! Now I wish I hadn't tried so hard on that darn application. Jeez, what was I thinking? Driving 14 hours to go see the school? That was just to get out of the house. I'm such a retard.

I love the sarcasm. This campus sure could use more people like you.

hey johnkgh how old are you ?

this conversation is too funny. slipstream, i honestly dont care where you apply or dont apply. my only point was that you shouldnt knock hopkins for not responding to an email.

and as for your friends, i dont know them so i wont talk about them. BUT, realize that every campus has its own personality, and just because it might not match your friends' doesnt make it a bad place, and it doesn't mean it wont match yours!

as a final word, just keep your options open and dont rule anything out. I know the first time i came to hopkins there was a dungeons and dragons convention (so the place was infested with fat middle aged geeks), and I thought "you gotta be kidding me." but the second time i came, it was great and i got a feel for what it was really all about.

Is the post card that you guys are talking about yellow in color with Johns Hopkins written on a corner in black? If it is, then good, i got one too. But that was even before my recs and school report etc were sent in, so I realy dont know if this postcard acknowledges that your application is complete or if it just says they have recieved the first part of your application and are happy you applied.

I received the yellow postcard, too. I think that it just says that they've received some part of your application, not that it's complete. I don't have it in front of me now, but I think it said that JHU would contact you if they were missing anything.

damn.nothing at all.

same here......

Man...what do you mean JHU doens't give a crap about you? They sent the postcard. I emailed Amy Brokl of their admissions with questions before; she sent back a long reply within 2 days...
