my teachers tell me to give them stamped envelopes. Does that mean that they are going to send the letters themselves? I mean I thought that we were suppose to read them first and then decide which ones we want to send. but if that's the case, the teachers won't be needing the envelopes.

depends on the school
it seems like your school has your teachers send the letters themselves; other schools collect the letters and package your transcripts and other things and sends it all together.

usually, it is understood that you don't read the letter unless the teacher says it's ok. you could ask...but I'm not really sure on if that;s considered rude or not.

^ I think it's considered rude because it means you don't trust the person. One of my teachers offered to allow me to read his recommendation, while the other didnt, but I trusted the 2nd one enough to not ask.

Theoretically you can look at them if you want, if you dont waive your rights, but then Colleges think you're trying to hide things and dont take your recommendations positively.
