The second time I've read a post by you, and smiled and nodded my head in agreement.

With that said, I don't completely agree; white girls from the American South, and to a lesser extent, Midwest, are frequently very kind, caring, hospitable "throwbacks", nothing like many of the big city, spoiled Paris Hilton clones you're thinking of.

As for putting women on a pedestal, that's only natural, wutang; most of the guys on this forum are nerdy virgins with limited interaction and success with women.

Dude, this is such a misconception about us whiney Asian guys:

This isn't about white women. It's about women in general, women of all walks of life. It's about how WOMEN feel about Asian men, as filtered through the lens of the media capital of the world. Latin women, Middle-Eastern women, Asian women, whatever... I don't care about white women in particular. It just that, being in a white-dominated country, most of the women that I run into and am interested in happen to be white. It's the numbers of it all. Capiche?

F**k did I abuse the underscore key on that one.

One time i was eating sushi, and my friend was like, "you know, Japan is the fattest country in the world" and i was like "hell no it isnt. Its the skinniest country in the world, out of countries with the money to feed all its people."

And then she was going to try and disprove me, and she sent me this link, and apologized because she was way wrong.

Huh? What was she thinking (did she think all the Japanese looked like sumo wrestlers)?

And yeah, America is full of fat or obese people but you wouldnt know it by watching TV/films (except for the reality weight-loss shows).

I'm actually a really prideful, non-self-hating Asian. I actually have a fair amount of disdain for white people. I'm probably obsessed with changing peoples' perceptions about my race. My recent discovery of just how low of an opinion most white women have for Asian men (esp. in online dating) has shook me up a bit though.

I know. Seriously, they have the healthiest diets in the world.

You're living in a fantasy world if you think white people don't have the same kind of disdain for me. I'm just returning the favor.

Here's a hint: There's a reason why Rush Hour 3 is the number one movie in the country and everyone finds it hilarious. And it's NOT because they have respect for Asian people.

Don't think so - I'm probably more knowledgeable about how the media/environment impacts peoples perception about race, etc. than most people.

Heres a hint making generalizations about whites isnt exactly helpful with regard to the generalizations/stereotypes about Asians (or any other group).

Actually, I think it is. Asians aren't generally stereotyped to be "uppity" or angry/militant; it's more the case that they're thought of as quiet, shy, the model minority that shuts up and minds its own beeswax. I don't know how long Asians, Asian guys in particular, are gonna continue to put up with the constant bull***** and humiliation from American TV, film, and media any longer, portrayed as asexual, ching-chonging jesters for white people's amusement (again, a la Jackie Chan in Rush Hour 3), but it's starting to p!ss me off. Just a tad.

But I suppose I shouldn't expect anyone else (white) to understand, should I?

Thank you. (Btw, Im sure I have some, but I, at the very least, am cognizant that I may have them and try not to let them affect me when talking about these issues rationally.)

Its one thing to point out the inequities in media/societal portrayals (such as WFAN recently hiring one of the Jersey Guys radio shock jocks to replace Imus, a shock jock, btw, who had made racist remarks about Asians and Hispanics would WFAN had done the same if the shock jock had made racist remarks about blacks?) but making gross generalizations about whites doesnt do anything but make one a hypocrite.

my bf is half filipino and half white. that's a good combination- he looks exotic yet classic. i kno filipino is really pacific islander but thought i'd add in my experience anyway. reallly feel very little cultural tension from other people aside from some jokes about his genitalia every once in a while and getting second looks at public places sometimes. also he's vvery american culturally so that's not a barrier at all between us.

Question. Since when did a terrible Rotten Tomatoes score nullify the fact that the entire American public when to see Rush Hour 3 in droves, making it number one in the box office? Exactly.

Fils are primarily Austronesian however, they also comprise of people of Chinese, Spanish (or other European) or indigenous backgrounds (your bf, may in fact, be more than half-white).

I think you are overstating it a bit. The people going to such RH3 are primarily teenage boys/young males.

Aww, I'm an Asian female who is looking forward to seeing Rush Hour 3 (while I'm sure the plot is going to be mediocre, I like his movies enough to want to see it), personally I don't find Jackie Chan's character offensive, especially in comparison to a lot of other portrayals of Asian men. Movies where the main character is white, goes to an Asian country, beats out all the other Asian guys and gets the girl is far more offensive to me (Tokyo Drift, a few Steven Seagal movies, no idea what the titles were) or when an inept Asian antagonist gets totally owned.

there's some cantonese guys that are cute. as for chinese in general, it just depends. some chinese are a lot more western looking than others (ie a lot of the peeps in the movies, ie lucy liu- not that she's so white looking but her facial structure is a lot more like whites than many others), and some are just better looking than others. i agree, i think koreans in general are better looking.

my "pilipino" as his mother says, is actually like 75% white bc his mom (the filipino side) is actually about half white (her dad was spanish) i guess although she really doesn't like white at all. she's very pretty most white people, even my white bread family, think so. i have been to so many filipino parties and the people are so nice, they're all middle aged people in a religious/cultural society dedicated to Mary, so i guess they should be nice lol, but i think they have nicer thoughts about me than a white people in general would have about a non-white significant other.
i k fils are austronesian- southern china-derived farmers who crossed the ocean and gained control of the pacific islands from darker, curly haired negrito indigenous people.
a lot of people think he's hispanic and many just think he's "chinese' meaning asian. in case you can't tell, i love to talk about this kid.
also, the feeling i've always gotten with him is that he's not really a separate person from me. the fact our skin is very different in color- he's brown, i'm pretty fair, and we don't look alike in general doesn't detract from that at all. every now and then he'll notice how lite i am in comparison to him and i'll think of it but really there is no "color line" at least for me.
i don't think we really count as an "interaccial couple" in comparison to couples that are black and white, even if it's a 75% of the same thing as the other person as is my situation. i'm so glad all i have to put up with is awkward stares and distasteful jokes.

I haven't seen Tokyo Drift, but from what I see in the clips and trailers, that movie isn't so bad. It actually shows some pretty suave/cool Asian guys in there that are actually of high social and romantic stature (well, it IS Japan after all); the fact that the white guy may ultimately get the girl in the end is of little importance to me.

I didn't see it either and I'm probably biased because I don't like the Fast and Furious movies to begin with, but I mean, isn't it worse that the white guy who sounds very white trash-ish (that is him speaking near the end with the worst accent in the history of the earth isn't it? FYI this is coming from someone from Kansas) can beat out all the suave and cool Asian guys at their own game and manages to steal the girl from the best of them (though from the wiki summary, the main antagonist, DK, does seem like a ass)?

so u know what my japanese tutor told me about japanese girls and guys. She said that when she was studying abroad in Japan for a year, and what ends up happenening is everyone wants to "be your friend" at first. Some are genuinely interested (college students that is) and some just want an oportunity to improve their english.
She said that it is much worse for guys. She said that she knew a bunch of white guys there (americans that is) and she said they spent many days, practically running from girls that would never stop following them around or flirting with them. Like if he invited 2 girls to go with him somewhere, a whole flock of 10+ would follow. And she said that some japanese male students started to resent them for it, because they wanted the japanese girls, but the japanese girls like the white guys.

So, by the information i have been given first hand, by someone who has lived in japan for about 1.5 years of her life (she had an internship too), i think that when the white guy gets the asian girl, in the case of tokyo drift, is not at all racist since according to my tutor, that is basically what happens to all the guys.

And lastly, this is just what i was told, and should be taken for a grain of salt...well actually, i teaspoon of salt if thats better, because it obviously is somewhat significant.
