How do you communicate with teachers?

Which one is the more effecitve way of communication, face-to-face or via emails? I've asked my English teacher a few short English questions via emails but he always responds in class saying he is way too busy to respond to anything that is not strictly school-relevant; my mom says that he may be too tired to type but he doesn't respond to me in class either. Maybe that's his rationale and maybe he just doesn't like me (again, those questions are short but I unfortunately cannot understand them) Maybe it is my way of communication that causes the problem. My mark does not suffer but he is making me so afraid of him. What should I do?

Also, how do you know if a teacher likes you? How do you convey your true affection to a certain teacher? I need help.

I dont think trying to conversate to teachers a lot is a good idea. maybe its creeping him out?

Not a lot. Only three times in one semester and he refused them all (but I am not sure whether three times is a lot).

Oh well, he is my only English teacher.
