I dunno how all this computer stuff works. How do I get on to my college's newtork and set up my college email and all that stuff? Can you even access these newtorks away from the school? And do I need to use another provider, like AOL or msn, until I get onto the school's network?

In most cases, you will need to be ON campus to access the school's network. You'll still be able to check some stuff like e-mail and things like that off campus but for other stuff you'd probably need to be ON campus. Most likely once you connect your laptop/desktop to a ethernet jack or wireless router on campus you'll pick up the school connection automatically. They might have some kind of password protection setup or some network keys you might need to know but I'd assume they'd tell you about all that stuff once you got to school (no point in telling you if you're not on campus yet).

If you have anything that's real technical just call the IT department at your school. I was having issues setting up my college e-mail with MS Outlook 2007 and I was able to fix it right away once they gave me the info I needed. I'm sure if you call them up they'd be able to do the same thing.

my school, during orientation, had us come to a set place to get our computers configured to the network.

At our school we go to a certain part of their website, take and pass an ethics quiz, then we're hooked up as soon as we plug in our ethernet cable.
