I heard from some people here that if you have your counselor call UMich, you have a better chance at getting in. I'm wondering what you tell your counselor to say and who do you call? I really want to do anything I can to increase my chances. Also, I heard that writing the admissions office a letter could help. What should I include in it besides just saying how much I want to go there.

Your best chance of getting accepted are your rigor of classes (lots of honors & AP), having a full schedule…no slacking senior year, GPA u/w 3.8 -4.0 W 4.0 and above, ACT 33 and above (in state stats I think are a bit lower), many year committment to activities and clubs showing leadership, good solid community service, NHS, positive recommendations by your counselor and teachers and of’course great essays where you can show them how a University of Michigan education is the superior choice for you!! GO BLUE. You can read all of this on the U Mich website under admissions tips. I think a phone call to admissions by your counselor is pointless because only YOU and YOUR record can get you accepted.

I recommend that you stay away from phone calls, letters, and other stuff that just makes you look desparate. Chances are, the admissions people will get annoyed by you and pick someone else. Your stats and essays when you applied should speak for itself, so be confident in that.

I understand people want to go here because our school is legit, but if you don’t have the grades to get in then you don’t have the intelligence to hack it here. Not trying to be a d*ck but I’m trying to save you from being one of those kids that just shouldn’t have been accepted here…

I feel I have the necessary ability to attend UM. I have improved my grades considerably since my freshman year. I went from a 3.51 to a 3.93 senior year taking 4 AP classes and getting 4 As and 1 B+ ( in calc bc and I improved that from an E 1st quarter to getting a 97 percent on the final. In addition I have a 32 ACT and have already gotten a 4 or 5 on 3 different AP tests. My only problem is that cumulatively I have a gpa of only 3.69 due to my poor freshman and sophomore year. I also had to overcome an extreme shyness problem so that’s why ECs are weak until junior year. That is why I would like to use any means necessary to attend UM. No need to be arrogant and jump to conclusions before actually knowing a person’s particular situation.

“It’s only arrogance if you’re wrong.”

It isn’t a good idea to pester the admissions office with notes or phone calls begging them to let you in regardless of your personal situation. And your stats obviously show your not dumb. So just be patient.

Josh you’re the man!

I wouldn’t quite say a begging letter. It’s more of a letter to update my extracurriculars but I also wanted to include other information with that letter so that’s why I’m asking. I’m just very frustrated by the fact that even though I have proven that I can handle a rigorous course and succeed that I have not even heard from them at all. My gpa from my junior and senior year is a 3.88 and I was under the impression that these grades mattered the most. So I was wondering what kind of information should be included in this letter to increase my chances at getting in.

Besides, at this stage how will stand out in the crowd without calling the admissions office. This is more of showing that I am still very enthusiastic about attending UM. Fortune favors the bold.

“It’s only arrogance if you’re wrong.”

Nice quote. As long as this isn’t meant to insult my intelligence.

^lol dude don’t triple post…

how many total AP classes did you take? What is your gpa for sophomore and junior year? Those are very important in decisions. If the letter updates your EC’s to make your stats stronger, then it wouldn’t be a problem, but asking your counselor to call them is probably crossing the line.

Lol sorry. Didn’t even realize it. I have taken 7 APs. My sophomore gpa is 3.70 and my junior gpa is 3.84. My ECs mwould show a little more leadership skills and probably makes me look stronger. I have done a little more since the first sem.

Bump bump bump

Oh yeah has Antony actually done something like this?

its only on special cases I think. This happen to one of my friends who was a twin. his twin brother was accepted to umich, but he wasn’t so our counselor called the university explaining the situation and emphasizing how they were twins. In the end they both got in and now they attend umich. However, I don’t think it would work for everybody without a unique cause. sorry
