Hi guys,
After I filled out my housing application, I kind of had a panic attack. So how exactly am I going to find or be assigned a roommate?
Anyone have any idea how they are going to do it? Or better, is anyone looking for a roommate (me!)?

BTW, I will be enrolling in Tisch film production.

They will assign you. But ,I have no personal experience with this, every year there is a facebook group for the NYU school year of graduation, and people find roomates that way.

There is also a surprisingly effective “Roomate Search & Messaging” system on the housing form itself. You’ll see it as one of the tabs on the checklist on the left, while filling out the form. I found my roommate that way!

And btw, I’m going in to film production at Tisch as well! Are you on Facebook? We should talk sometime!

I don’t think so. It’s entitle “Find an NYU Roommate 2014”, or something like that. Basically people looking for roommates fill out a survey (one that is much more in depth than the one NYU provides) and they post it in a discussion thread with their name in the title. Then, people go look at other people’s surveys and strike up a conversation and add the person they think they are comparable with as a roommate.

Let me see if the link provided previously works:

Find An NYU Roommate! 2014 Edition | Facebook

Sorry, the link can’t just be clicked on. Do a search on Soo I need a roommate (NYU thread) and there are 2 links provided for the 2014 Facebook Roommate Search and Survey.

so if we don’t find a roommate beforehand (I just think the whole process is kind of awkward), do they just randomly assign us? Does everyone find roommates on their own or are there people who would rather just be assigned? And when they assign you, do they take the survey you filled out (do you sleep with lights on etc) into consideration?

I think it’d be kind of fun to meet a totally new person, just as long as they don’t keep me up all night haha
