I'm finding the whole roommate finding process pretty difficult and awkward- does anyone have any input on whether it might be a better idea to just be assigned? I mean, does everyone find someone beforehand or do a lot of people just let nyu decide? Do roommates who are assigned tend to get along? Thanks so much for all your help!

If you let NYU assign you, you complete a roommate questionnaire. It asks questions like what hours your are typically active, quite or like to play music, study times, other habits and general personality. From my experience and knowledge of friends I say they do a pretty good job of assigning people for the most part. There is usually at least 1 common thing if not more such as major or school, place of origin, or any hobbies that you may have listed in your initial application.

There are usually facebook groups for finding potential roommates if you ever choose that route.

I just say that by finding one beforehand you have more assurance that you’re compatible to living together. Not that NYU doesn’t do a great job of matching, but there are those cases where people who shouldn’t live together get paired or people lied on their surveys.

This facebook group is great: [Login | Facebook](Facebook)
That’s where I found mine.

I decided to find my roommate online because it gave me comfort. I think you need all of the comfort you can handle especially if you’re living in NYC!
