How do you get a job at 16?

I've been a hermit throughout my whole life, so I really don't know how the working world is like. I heard colleges like to see working experience - how important is it?

Also, any tips on where to start? I've searched numerous stores online (from my local grocery store to Macy's), and almost all of them have an age requirement of 18, or the only available job positions are store manager, etc. Now I'm thinking maybe I have to actually visit the stores to apply for a lower position. I really have no clue as it's my first time job-hunting, please help!

EDIT: Sorry, I didn't realize that this was in the wrong category! I'm new here.

Do you play any sports? Music? Are you good in school? Which Subjects? You can advertise as a tutor or coach. Or if you like animals, put up signs around your neighborhood saying that you will walk/take care of their dog/cat for some money. Or, be a camp counselor. Dd you go to any camps when you were younger? because you could apply for a counselor position. etc… Also, I’m pretty sure you can work at longs drugs if your 16, idk for sure though. Good luck!

At 16 getting a job becomes a lot easier than when your younger. Lots of local places around your town will hire 16 year olds (restraunts, supermarkets, etc). Also check out any summer camps in your area.

Also, are you looking to make money or get experience? Our 15-year-old son found a wonderful internship this summer on internships.com that is giving him excellent experience in his area of interest although it doesn’t provide a paycheck.

Create your own job. We’ve tasked our son to raise a few thousand dollars over the summer to help cover technology fees, activity fees, laundry, etc… He has designed, manufactured, marketed, and is selling bat houses direct and through consignment with local businesses. He’s learning about fixed costs, variable costs, manufacturing yield, marketing, profit margin, and productivity/output. You don’t have to work at at the local grocery store or Macy’s to demonstrate that you know what the working world is like. Demonstrating entrepreneurship or a basic understanding of economics may be more advantageous than bagging groceries or folding polo shirts.

CADDY!!! It pays cash and age doesn’t matter. Plus you can make contacts and you get free golf. They will pretty much hire anyone since it costs the club nothing to have you there waiting to go out.
My advice is to caddy on ladies’ day. Ladies will request the same caddy over and over again. The regular guys don’ t always like these loops so it is an easy in. Clubs love high school and college age kids. Wear khakis and a collared white or navy shirt to see the starter. Tuck in your shirt and wear a belt. Don’t wear cargos.

Also FYI about supermarket jobs–many require you to join a union. You can also camp counsel (CIT) but many of those jobs charge for the privilege of working there.
