Is it just getting a 170+ and 3.7+ and hoping for the best or is there something more they look for? Internships/work experience? Leadership/extracurriculars like undergrad schools or does that not factor in? What else?

170, and 3.7 is arguably the baseline, while everything else lets you compete against others with the same scores.

Law schools care mostly about your LSAT score and your GPA.

Phenomenal GPA, LSAT score and an avid involvement in community and school affairs (student government, social affairs, etc.).
It is a simple commitment to a well above average college existence, at a time when most of your peers are not engaged in such.

Vegas, law schools don’t really care about your extracurricular activities unless you’ve done something really spectacular or you have absolutely nothing to put on your resume.

You also don’t really need a phenomenal GPA for most of the top 10 schools except HYS. A high LSAT score can outweigh a mediocre GPA. By mediocre, I mean 3.5ish, which I guess isn’t really mediocre by normal standards.

Okay… that wasn’t contradictory.

does your undergrad institution matter?
because im deciding between mcgill (20k/yr) and Georgetown or Notre Dame (>50k/yr)
and i aspire to get into a top law school in the future

There are so many threads on this… The consensus is generally no, it does not matter to a great extent, certainly not between the choices you outlined.
