So I’m trying to make a major decision here between SJSU and JC.
I am aspiring to become a biomedical/chemical engineer and I really like San Jose and the silicon valley (there are lots of opportunities during and after college). I also like the fact that I’m not far from home ( I live near Sac).
So I can either go-to Sierra College (JC) or SJSU and hopefully, you guys can help me with that decision. If I goto JC I think I have a pretty good shot at UC Berkeley or a higher tier college (I consider myself a pretty good student with a 4.1 GPA and a 1280 SAT with tons of AP and JC classes) however I’m not sure if it really would help me out in the long run.
To help with my decision I have a few questions:
Is there any advantage going to JC than to a higher tier college (better job opportunities / higher salary)?
How is the college life at SJSU (night/party life, activities, etc)?
What is the full 4-year costs like (I heard between 100-120k including tuition, housing, meal-plan, books, etc)?
Thanks for reading and I appreciate any comments. Thanks!
No one cares where you started, but rather the ending of your undergraduate career. Transfers and incoming freshman at X school both get the degree. I don’t think the degree would mention where they transferred from.
If you go to SJSU, you are more likely to be established and do well in classes where it matters (upper-division), come across multiple opportunities, and have a wider network. If you go to CC, you’ll save money, have a second chance at the college admissions process, and have more time to figure out exactly what you want to do.
SJSU has all of the aspects of a stereotypical college experience but since we are a commuter school it’s what you make of it. In other words, you put in what you get and you have to seek out those experiences. We have top-notch athletics, a great diverse Greek system, and a good amount of students not from the Santa Clara county.
Sticker-price wise according to College Board, if you were to live on-campus for the 1st year then off-campus for the 2nd year, you will have to put in $54,476. At Sierra CC, it would be $26,022. This is including tuition, housing, textbooks, transportation, etc.
