how do you guys squeeze in SAT prep time??

I have 4 academic cores, and my homework takes till like 9 pm at least, if i'm lucky... And by that time, i'm too tired to do tooo much SAT prep. especially CR, where i almost fall asleep half way thru lol! of course i'm scared to drink coffee/tea for i won't wake up the next morning...

u guys?

My plan was to do a little bit each night, but in the two weeks since school started I've only adhered to that schedule once. I'm sort of in the same boat as you, except that I rarely start my homework until 7 or 8 p.m. (so I'm up until midnight finishing it). I need to work on my time management skills before college! ;)

not to be bitter or anything, but you can't think doing hw until 9 is tiring..

I have classes until 4:30 everyday, and I have classes every single day at lunch. I am taking 8 IB courses and 3 options. I get home by like 5:30~6, then my hw takes until 11~12, and then most of the time I need to prepare for quizzes/exams. And once bball season starts, which is early or late November, I'll have basketball game/practice everyday except friday, meaning I'll get home at like 8:00 everday. My point is that you have A LOT more spare time than most of people on cc. If you get tired while studying the SAT, take a 10 min nap, that really wakes you up.

Wow, a ten minute nap would make me really tired.

The key is to do the stuff you don't enjoy doing or don't absolutly have to first.

Let's say you have to read a book for English class by next week and you have to finish up a report due tomorrow. For me, reading is not one of the most enjoyable things to do. So the first thing I would do when I got home from school would be to read, while I am awake and willing to work. Later on I would finish the report that's due tomorrow, since it is so important, I would complete it no matter how tired I was or how late it was.

It's easy to say, "well its 9:00PM and I'm not in the mood to read, I have a whole week anyway". While on the other hand it is difficult for most ccer's to say "It's 9PM, screw that report due tomorrow."

Yeah, lol, a ten minite nap really isn't anything to me. When I'm REALLY tired, I never wake up from naps. So I've stopped taking them.

And yeah, I'm struggling with how I'm going to study for SATs amidst everything else. That's why I don't get much sleep anymore.

I am having the same problem with finding time to study. I have a 6:50 morning class (my high school is a little odd) and a full schedule. I am taking three advanced placement classes so I never finish my homework until 10:00 when I have to go to bed in order to wake up the next morning. I also serve as vice president on three different boards and am expected to help set up every dance and serve on almost every committee. Finally I have an after school job. I am really freaking out because the ACT is only in about a month and a half.

My solution: do most, if not all of your homework in school (in homeroom, study halls, and in other classes).

ok how much sleep does one need??? I mean Im taking the Oct. SAT and need to really study adamantly. So is it o.k. if I get only 4-5 hours of sleep everyday considering the amount of work load I have?

Do it during lunch :) Hopefully you have at least 30 minutes, and you might be able to sneak some food in the period before/after.

^

Thats the problem. All my EC's are during lunch... i have tuesday to thursday booked up (or will be soon), and my school ends at lunch time on friday.. besides, i can't really work with all the distraction during lunch time. the library is always crowded to the max with people doing anything but studying/reading.

sang: I find that if i sleep too late, like at midnight, then i'll wake up the next morning really groggy and tired during class. even after drinking coffee.

You only have 4? I'm doing 6 academic classes and I still find time to do SAT Prep. I usually do Saturdays and Wednesdays. =]

You have to get used to sleeping less. Given your age, you don't need 8 hrs of sleep anymore. 5~6 hrs is good enough. Of course it would be tiring for the first few days. But you just gotta get used to it.

Why dont you just do it weekends?

Oh, NO! ::dies from misinformation:: Teenagers need MORE sleep than ANYONE, save babies! Ideally, according to research, a teenager should sleep NINE AND A QUARTER HOURS a night.

Now, I'm not lecturing on sleep habits, because God knows I get 4-5 if I'm lucky, but don't ever think that teenagers shouldn't need to sleep because they're "older".

I would try to do it on weekends. I usually work on my SAT prep Saturday and Sundays during the morning when I first wake up and at night before I go to bed. So I would suggest trying to find little pockets of time to work on it every week.

wait like what do u mean working on SAT?? how do u work on it?

as in how do u prepare for it?

I think sleep is really overrated. Many hours of sleep do not necessarily equal quality sleep. As you probably know, we go through a cycle while we sleep. There is one specific stage of this cycle in which our body gets most involved in recovery process and what not (can't remember the name exactly, I think its called the deep sleep stage), and as the number of hours of sleep increases, the amount of time spent in deep sleep decreases. This basically means that as sleep becomes less "effective" as its session gets longer. One just needs to learn to maximize the amount of deep sleep. I personally don't believe that 9 1/2 hours of sleep is necessary at all.

Wow, you guys.... Stop posting and get to work! It's Friday. Seize the day and the weekend. Also stop whining about your classes. I have 7 academic classes and I know that someone here probably has more than that.
