How do you keep off the Freshman 15?

I know two big ones:
1) Don't drink soda during every meal
2) Stay away from beer

Any other good suggestions?

smash your head against a wall repeatedly. gets rid of cravings.

Watch what you’re getting and eating at meals; I think most dining halls are buffet style; don’t get too much.

Also, take some walks around school.

don’t eat like a pig and exercise

[Freshman 15 Challenge: Avoid College Weight Gain - Freshman15.com](http://www.freshman15.com/)
Gain the weight and join yet another ****ty reality show from MTV. You’ll be a star.

I agree, don’t drink sodas a lot- or ever. For one, some machines charge a ridiculous amount for a bottle of coke, and it really adds up!! Plus the calories add up. Of anything, switch to diet and only drink one a day. Try drinking water or another healthy drink instead.

For awhile I also ate a lot of salads for lunch and went easy on the dressing. I would also get low fat or fat free yogart for a snack instead of a bag of chips.

Don’t snack, and if you do, snack on healthy foods; walk/bike to class, even if it’s cold; be active, go play pickup soccer or frisbee or something with friends or whoever; make sure you’re eating a serving of vegetables and/or fruit with every meal; try to limit overly sugary juices and sodas (the occasional one isn’t a big deal, just no consistent consuming of sodas); besides going to a gym (which I don’t find all that necessary to prevent weight gain), try to stretch and get your heart rate up in the morning before going to class or starting your day; beer is fine, in moderation, it’ll be harder if you’re not a lightweight and you’re binging to a heavy intoxication every week; just try and be conscious of what you’re eating and if you have a really bad day of junk food try to balance it out in other meals.

If your dining hall tends to serve the same thing everyday (which was what all five or so of the dining halls at my first college did), plan out what you’re getting before you get there. Because they had the typical buffet set up, some students would just bumrush the food and get everything and then later see something else they wanted, and get that…and then repeat a couple times.

Go in with an idea of what you’re getting and how much.

My friends and I used to also walk to the furthest dining hall for an additional (albeit, small) bit of exercise.

1) don’t forget to eat 3 meals a day…waiting 'til you’re hungry makes you eat more. (I also think the body stores up food, so it doesn’t starve. But in that process, you give your metabolism a whack. That’s also why yo-yo dieters gain weight.)
2) Remember how much you ate before college. Follow that portion. Don’t take seconds.
3) just 'cuz it’s there doesn’t mean you have to eat it.
4) get enough sleep. Studies show that crazy sleep hours leads to weight gain.

Don’t eat 3 meals a day. Eat 5-6 meals a day.

how to keep off the freshman 15? eat as much as you can. this way you can easily surpass the 15 mark.

Resist ordering in a pizza when studying late. Dings your wallet and adds the lbs.

Pandem, with that advice you to need to add that those meals should be proportionally much smaller.

run 5 miles a day.

It was unfortunate for me that starting college coincided with the serious drop in metabolism my parents had been promising me I’d have at some point since I was eight years old. So I actually have to go to the gym two or three times a week and not snack at all unless it’s fruit and veggies, or I will gain 40 pounds. Surprisingly enough it’s not as difficult as I thought it would be. Your self-discipline and time management skills will be strengthened now that you are in college now anyway (or you’ll probably fail), so you might as well throw some healthy habits in there to work on, too.

Try to utilize the deli bar (sandwiches)

Eat bananas when hungry

I don’t know if it’s healthy or not, I haven’t really asked anyone but I’ve been on the coke pretty hard for the last few months. It’s keeping me pretty trim.

Don’t drink.

–watch your portions
–add more vegetables and fruits to your daily diet
–limit your pizza intake to once or twice a week
–limit your beer intake (really will give you a beer belly)
–drink water rather than soda (soda is full of sugar and calories)
–choose pretzels over chips
–be careful of the unlimited access to desserts and ice cream in the dining halls
