For the most part, do people bring lockboxes or just stash stuff in their underwear drawer?

Maybe the underwear drawer is not the best place. Im going to use a small luggage to hold stuff that i wont be needing on a daily basis but i need to keep secure like my passport, ss card, extra cash, etc... Ill be hiding this either under my bed or some other innocuous place.

My son used small lockbox to keep passport, credit cards, Rx meds. Of course someone could just carry off box, but they have very little trouble with theft at his school and really it was more for keeping things in one secure place. I read on one post that a student cable locked a box to a built in fixture in dorm room.

why are you bringing your passport to school with you?

My son had his one semester because he was going to leave from school on a trip where he would need it.

see my post "Idea for dorm furniture, what do you think? (long)"

this is an example of what inner-city Detroit does to people in the sake of protecting their belongings.

Red..

Why are taking your SS card? There is absolutely no gain to having it and everything to lose. Memorizing 10 digits isn't very difficult.

I love seeing people open their wallets with their SS card right in the front. Such dumbasses.

omgg...how many threads are there going to be on this? people, do not worry your stuff will not be stolen! just, you know, put it out there, let people know what you got. have faith.

actually you do need that card for somthing, its called a job. i'd say probably 90% of places won't let you work without one. So I'd take it with me.

Wallet? no. Lockbox? sure, can't hurt

Hmm I disagree. I've had two jobs and I have yet to have the actual CARD on me for either of them. The number suffices for the application.

I'm getting a lockbox for holding my digital camera, iPod, extra cash. I'll hide it somewhere. And, bendrumfront, theft is somewhat of a problem at my school. No school is absolutely perfect. Some schools are lacking in diversity, some schools are in bad areas, and some schools have theft issues. Don't tell people that they have nothing to worry about when it might be a valid concern at their schools.

you do need your SS for most legit jobs. maybe not mcdonalds and stuff. i don't know. and your passport is also nice if you randomly decided to go out of the country for a trip on break or something.

but i had all that stuff in a random place at the bottom of a drawer or something in a normal box or folder or whatever. seriously, who's gonna take the time to look for that stuff on a college campus? sure it can happen, but it's more likely to happen at a home.

as for cameras and laptop and ipods...those are more likely to get stolen. so but a laptop lock and hide your camera and ipod when you aren't in your room.

How does the laptop lock work exactly? Is it expensive? I've been wondering what I would do with my laptop when I'm not in the room and I don't need it. My dorm room door locks, as well my closet door, so I was thinking I'd shove it behind stuff in the closet and lock it in there. Or does anyone have a better suggestion?

yea i needed my social security card when i got a minimum wage job so its common these days.

im getting a laptop lock and hiding all my valuables in odd hard to find places. mainly keeping the door locked and you should be fine.

Good to hear that, thanks.

Just lock the door

that's overrated

set up a bear trap in various locations

^
I thought that was common knowledge

All of the jobs I've had made me show my social security card and my birth certificate. I'm probably going to look for a job this year, so I might as well bring that stuff just in case.

def bring ss card...

I highly highly doubt youll get a job w/o it...

and birth cert. too
