like i said, how do you let your highschool and college know that you took a summer course( i dont think it will be on the transcript, corect me if im wrong). i am an incoming junior who is going to take precalc next year. then, after i finish, i was going to take calc AB senior year. however, can i take a summer course for calc AB and do calc BC senior year. how would the colleges i apply to and my high school know i took this course and let me take BC senior year.and if i do take AB in summer, when do i take the ap test, the same MAY as i take BC? sorry for all the questions but this is my last one, i am thing of going to UCB,LA,SD, I, and maybe Stanford. will these colleges give me credit for AB and BC if i take it high chool, or should i just take AB senior year and BC in college. thanks CC

You can’t take the Calculus AB and Calculus BC AP Exam at the same time. If you’re going to skip to Calculus BC, you better make sure you’re ready and had enough preparation in Calculus AB. Anyway, Calculus BC typically gives the same college credit as Calculus AB but more if you get a 5, so there really isn’t a point in taking both exams anyway…

That aside, is there actually a “Calculus AB” class you can take over the summer? If you’re planning on taking a college calculus class…I guess this isn’t very significant, but it’s not an AP class and it’s not called Calculus AB, and taking Calculus BC is basically just taking the second quarter/semester of Calculus.

Ugh I’m babbling at this point.

So, basically, if you wanted to skip to Calculus BC, you would probably have to take the equivalent of Calculus AB at a CC, but from my experience, you need to ask your high school for permission first. For me, there was this R-44 form I had to fill out and have my school fill out as well.

After that, if you get permission and take the course and want high school credit for it, you’ll have to get the transcript from the college and give it to the high school in order for the high school to put it on your high school transcript.

Then, on whatever application you’re using for college, there will be a spot where you have to fill out the courses you took. That’s how you tell them you took a summer course. Of course, you’ll have to send a transcript as proof, but when you send the transcript differs from college to college.

This might not be the best explanation and this is just from my experience and these things might be different at different places, but…I hope this helped a little.
