I agree with the trumped-up exaggeration of knowledge bit. It annoys me to see people squabbling about US News rankings and getting into stupid arguments about prestige. It’s as though the concept of “education” has become embedded in this superficial web to the point of being unrecognizable. Not to mention the value of a college degree (including graduate degrees) has become inflated as f*** but people have no choice but to spend a sh**load of money getting one anyway just to have a chance at getting a decent job. Sigh.

Oh well, I’m still excited to be at UCLA in the fall!

@sapphire_ocean, you dont make the facking rules of the internet. and yamato uses terrible-quality ingredients for its sushi - i used to be a sushi chef so i know this shiz

“I’m a first year at UCLA, starting early with a summer session. I love the food; I love the squirrels; I love the physical activity that is walking to classes. The teachers are nice, and the faculty is friendly. I don’t like the snobby people and the airheads that get admitted to UCLA. But these are just my thoughts.”

You do realize that a rather large proportion of summer session students aren’t UCLA students. You have not been in the college long enough to make that statement that the people are “snobby and airheaded.” Keep an open mind and avoid becoming what you criticize.

Nobody mentioned transportation? I feel like the transportation at UCLA pretty bad compared to other schools/UCs (No parking permits granted except to job holders and regents scholars, bus system is slow and not free unlike at the other UCs, huge amounts of traffic when you do decide to hop on the bus). It makes it pretty hard to get anywhere outside of campus except within the near vicinity.

^traffic is only around rush hour, its not bad if you know when to leave. that’s a part of LA more than the school. I agree parking is a hassle though, the ticket police are hungry to give out fines.

IMO, the bus system is great. I don’t have a car, but my freshman year i manged to get around everywhere, like downtown, santa monica, century city, westside, hollywood, etc. its really underrated for 25 cents on the big blue.

But back to the topic, UCLA is a great school. I love the opportunity here. There are clubs and organizations for anything you want to do. People are nice and you can definitely find your niche here.

As a parent who just took the tour with my daughter yesterday, I find it hard to believe that there could be many airhead kids a UCLA. All I keep hearing from everybody is about how difficult it is to get in. My daughter has a 4.0, scored a 31 on her ACT, received a 4 on her AP Lit and a 5 on her AP Bio, and she’s participated in numerous EC’s. Yet she seems to think that she has a snowball’s chance in h*ll of admission. So, which is it? A well respected University filled with bright intellectual students, or a bimbo filled party school where people cheated on their SATs?

“So, which is it? A well respected University filled with bright intellectual students, or a bimbo filled party school where people cheated on their SATs?”

Definitely the latter. UCLA kids man. They have so much fun, are really good looking, and yet somehow manage to get good grades? Obviously a scam by the University of California.

respectively, with people like John Williams, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and terence tao, i would not consider us a " a bimbo filled party school with people who cheated on their SAT’s"

Kids at UCLA are smart. If UCLA is full of idiots, then what about all those schools with acceptance rates above 21%? I’m transferring from UCR so I’ve seen the other side.

However, they’re not show-offy d’bags about their intelligence, from my experience.

Totally offtopic but arcadefire1027, I do like your user name. :)

I hope it’s not all bimbos. I am sure it’s not but I really hope it isn’t because I am a bit disadvantaged in the looks department and I would hate to be living with a bunch of cheerleaders. I really shouldn’t base my views of the US school system of high school films, though…

From what I’ve seen, at least in North Campus classes, many of the girls can pass off as cheerleaders in terms of looks. However, they’re also ridiculously smart. You can’t really judge a person just on how they look at UCLA. It’s not like high school where you think, “Oh a cheerleader, she must be dumb” and she probably is.

At UCLA it’s more like, “Oh a sorority girl, she must be a wh*re and an idiot.” And then you realize she got a 95% on her essay while you, the ugly looking nerd, barely got a B. Sad, but such is life.

First time I visited UCLA I knew it was the school for me. I didn’t even care to get into Cal once I finally got my UCLA acceptance. I like the school spirit (every other person wearing some sort of UCLA gear)!

North Campus kids aren’t idiots, theyre just smart in a different way. For example, they can be more eloquent and cultured than any physics major you’ll find. Am I knocking physics majors? No, because they are smart on a technical basis. No one here is an idiot, they just have their own niche hence why colleges have MAJORs. Get it?
