How do you (or your MT/acting major kid) spend the summer?

Hello all. Long time lurker here. I am a junior at a theatre conservatory studing acting and am starting to think about how I should spend the summer in a way that would benifit my future career most.

My first summer I went home and worked and did a community theatre production. Last summer I stayed here (a really really big city) and worked two jobs. What I found out from last summer is that I can't spend another summer away from theatre.

I know there are a lot of threads on the high school programs, but that isn't what I'm looking for. In fact, I can't do a program of that kind even if it is offered to college students because I need to work at least 20 hours a week and can't spend thousands of dollars on a program like that.

I'm just curious about what all of you, or your children have done in the summer. Even if it was a formentioned program I would still like to hear their experiences. Some ideas I've had are internships (most are unpaid, but I would still have some time to work, but it would be the technical side of theatre), and summer stock (I know very little about this, and really would like to find out more, like how they cast, possible locations, ect.)

Thanks for reading, and I'm looking forward to hearing about all your experiences!

Why dont you audition at Straw Hat or NETC? You'll be seen by alot of different casting agents, and will most likely get some kind of work.

a LOT of summerstock castings happen at the HUGE auditions like strawhats and NETCs. in terms of possible locations for summerstock work -- it's basically everywhere!! there are theatres all over the country that have a summer season, and a lot of them perform in rep, meaning you get TONS of experience.

i definitely recommend looking into summerstock auditions/opportunities in your area, and i would say that that's how A LOT of actors spend their summers!
