How do you plan to pay for NYU?

I really want to go there now that I have researched it, went to the info session, and did a campus tour. I have good ec's, good gpa, and above average sat. the only thing that i am scared about is the money. How do you plan to pay your education at NYU?

That’s something that you and your parents should discuss before you start the application process…I would have liked if NYU offered more money, but I wanted to go to Stern so bad I overlooked the expenses of not only just about he most expensive school in the country, but also the cost of living in Manhattan…Luckily, my dad was prepared to pay on the full ~$50,000/year less than that would be gravy…My advice, TALK TO YOUR PARENTS b/c NYU sometimes will end up costing more than the EFC

This isn’t helpful, but I heard that many do a lot of loans.

A lot of loans. I haven’t got in info on Aid, but I’m not expecting much. (I’m expecting, though)

I’ve gotten $10k in scholarship and $4k in work study for next year at NYU. My dad’s ready to pay the rest out of pocket, but I have applied for numerous scholarships.

Something you might also want to mention (if its the case) that you can pay full tuition.

Will pay by the Federal Bank of Mummy and Daddy. =x Will try to convince them that an overseas education is worth the cost!

Probably rob a bank.

How is that not helpful Shinashi, I answered the question pretty clearly. I also offered advice and warned the OP that sometimes NYU does not meet the “need” of many. I think it’s obvious the rest of the payments are either loans or out-of-pocket. What other option is there?

they were calling their OWN advice unhelpful, not yours. chill.

Can I get in on this? I’m an excellent get-away driver.

I’m working my butt off at my job. Right now I work the ickiest hours. 4-10 on weeknights, and 1-9 on weekends. Bleh. But my paychecks are double what they used to be. This summer, I’ll probably work 35 hours a week. I also applied for a ton of outside scholarships. I’m doing cheap housing and will probably want to put my own money from work (I’ll probably have about $5000 that I can contribute by the end of the summer) in on it to knock down my loans. It’s a lot of hard work, and my senior year grades are suffering a bit, but as long as I stay accepted, I think I’ll be very happy in the future.

how much debt will you be in when you graduate? I’m willing to work a lot to go to NYU and I’m willing to be in debt after college…just not for 20 years.

Hm I’ll hopefully only have to take out $8-10k in loans each year. It’s worth it, considering my other alternatives are a lot less awesome than NYU. How long it’ll take me to get out of that debt depends on what kind of job I get when I graduate. Plus I’m planning on having a job in New York City. I don’t know. My brother paid of $16k in loans off in five years. So, I suppose 15 years of it maybe? shrug

so you work EVERYDAY? btw, what’s your major and how is your workload and students life working out with all the working you’re doing?

Nope, I don’t work every day. I do 4-10 Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and then either 7-3 or 1-9 on Saturdays and Sundays. Like I said, my senior year grades are not up to par with my grades in previous years. I used to have a 3.81 and get almost all A’s. This year, I’ve got straight B’s, plus a C in AP Economics. It’s only lowered my cumulative GPA to a 3.7, though, so I’m hoping that’s not grounds for rescinding or anything. I’m barely keeping up. But I’d need to work this hard to afford any of my schools, since I have to pay for college by myself. GW did the best with need-based aid, but it still didn’t cover everything. I’m taking advantage of the fact that senior grades don’t really affect initial admissions, whereas junior year I definitely put school before work. But now, if I don’t have the money, then I can’t go. Not even to state school. And I don’t want to live at home anymore.

But anyway, I’m not sure if you think I’m in college right now, but I’m still a senior in high school. I’m not sure what I want to major in, which, I know, makes me look really stupid for doing all this, but hey. I think it’ll make a difference in college when I’m not in class 40 hours a week. Right now I’m killing myself, but I’m hoping it’ll make NYU affordable for me.

Ugh, I have no idea at this point. Hoping to get some IB/AP credit to soften the blow. If all else fails, I might just opt to go overseas and sell my kidney in the black market . . .

Ughhh I’m thinking about going but I’d have close to $20,000 a year in loans to pay off by the end. The good thing is their work study program pays like $4000 a year which is more than most schools, so maybe I could actually use some of that money to pay it off. Most schools say like $1000 for work study and that would probably just end up being spending money.

How long would it take to pay off $80,000 in loans lol? Like a lifetime? Ugh. Well I’ve applied to a TON of external scholarships and every little bit I get would help.

scholarships do help. most of mines arent even merit based. there’s one I have just for being a Asian going to college. it’s kinda silly no one tries to find these scholarships

I’m just going to work when I get to the city. I figure if I’ll come out with around 50K that I will be responsible for after my parental contribution and I’ll just haul ass and work.

I’ll have to take out over 50,000 in loans…think I can appeal?
